About the role
The opportunity The Managing Director, Enterprise Data is accountable for positioning data as a strategic asset for the enterprise by leading efforts to elevate the organization’s use, management and creation of value from data that is central to operation of OTPP’s businesses. This role defines and executes the enterprise-wide data strategy that enables business growth, enhances operational efficiency, supports regulatory compliance, and reduces risk. The leader will oversee the definition, delivery, and continuous improvement of enterprise data capabilities, including data management, data governance, architecture, platforms, and vendor strategy, ensuring the organization has a scalable, trusted, and future-ready foundation. As a senior member of the Technology Services leadership team, this role also contributes to the broader mandate of talent, culture, and innovation within the division.
Who You'll Work With Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, Technology Services, you will partner closely with the Business Technology heads to engage with Investments, Member Services, Risk, Compliance, and other corporate functions to align data initiatives with enterprise objectives. You will also interact regularly with senior leadership, internal governance groups, and external vendors to ensure alignment, compliance, and operational excellence.
What You'll Do
- Define and execute enterprise-wide data strategies that align with current and future business needs, balancing innovation, risk management, and cost efficiency.
- Partner with Business Technology teams to align data initiatives with enterprise objectives and lead the development of a shared perspective and an integrated operating model for the delivery of incremental value to the organization.
- Establish and sustain a robust data governance operating model, policies, and metrics to ensure quality, security, and compliance.
- Direct the development of scalable enterprise data architecture to enable AI/ML and advanced analytics readiness.
- Oversee strategic management of vendors and enterprise-wide market data scouting, data sourcing, setting sourcing strategies and optimizing costs.
- Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making and ethical data use across the enterprise.
- Ensure alignment with Technology division engineering practices, standards, and enterprise architecture principles.
- Provide functional management for the full operating model from partner engagement, opportunity framing, managing external and internal data partners, data management, data engineering, data manufacturing and distribution along with driving mature governance practices.
- Build and develop world-class talent in data management and related disciplines, fostering diversity, inclusion, and professional growth.
- Lead and inspire a multi-disciplinary team (up to Director level) across governance, engineering, architecture, and vendor strategy.
What You'll Need
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in enterprise data management, including 5+ years at senior leadership.
- Proven track record implementing and managing large-scale data/technology solutions in financial services or other regulated, data-intensive industries.
- Deep understanding of enterprise data management, operations, and governance practices, and familiarity with regulatory frameworks and emerging standards in privacy, ESG, and data ethics.
- Strong literacy in financial services and investment management, across public and private markets.
- Knowledge of AI/ML enablement, BI, and analytics platforms.
- Strong ability to influence senior business leaders and communicate complex concepts simply.
- Demonstrated success in talent leadership, including building, motivating, and developing senior professionals.
- Undergraduate degree required; Masters preferred.
- Background in vendor management and enterprise contract negotiations preferred.
