The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

Are you passionate about using geospatial data to make a real impact? As a Geographic Information Systems Specialist with the NWT Centre for Geomatics, you will play a key role in delivering high quality mapping, data analysis, and geospatial tools to Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) departments, as well as collaborating with the federal government, various Indigenous organizations, private industry and the public. Your work will directly support land management, infrastructure planning, environmental monitoring, public safety, and many other priorities across the Northwest Territories.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, maintain and enhance geospatial datasets that support decision making across the GNWT.
- Lead geospatial projects from start to finish, conducting and managing all phases of project management including needs assessment, project design, client communication, timeline development, software and hardware needs, data needs, outputs, documentation and delivery of final products.
- Create geospatial products including but not limited to interactive map viewers, dashboard, and other apps, static maps, data workflows, and web map services.
- Analyze spatial data using advanced GIS techniques, automation, scripting and modelling.
- Providing expert guidance, training, and support to GNWT clients and partners on geospatial standards, tools, and best practices.
Key Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge and expertise in Geographic Information Systems and principles of geography.
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in geography with an emphasis in geographic information systems (GIS) with 2 years of recent, progressive, and directly related GIS experience in project management and service delivery.
Equivalencies:
- Completion of a GIS diploma program and at least 5 years of recent, progressive, and directly related GIS experience in project management and service delivery.
- Other equivalencies may be considered.
