About the role

What is the opportunity? As a key member of the RBC Capital Markets Productivity & Efficiency and Business Management team, you will support our strategic efficiency efforts across CM and articulate strategy (operating model, talent strategy etc.) for COO Group. We’re seeking a highly skilled member to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be someone who excels at working independently while also possessing the ability to collaborate effectively with the team as needed. This role demands an individual with strong critical thinking skills and a capacity for independent decision making.

This role will cut across the Productivity & Efficiency and Business Management mandates. Please note that this is not a Finance role, although the final candidate should have strong financial acumen.

What will you do?

  • Part of a center of expertise, you will support business management initiatives, and the execution of engagements that help Capital Markets’ senior executives understand the true costs of running their business, develop plans, and enable execution of Productivity & Efficiency. You will do this independently but sometimes as part of a team.

Project Management:

  • Foster and maintain key relationships within the Businesses and Functions to drive alignment and facilitate the seamless execution of projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design comprehensive project schedules, define specific deliverables, and establish critical milestones.
  • Create, curate, and maintain essential project artefacts such as meeting agendas, detailed reports, status updates, and other supporting documentation to ensure alignment and accountability.
  • Consistently report on project progress, including achievements, upcoming milestones, and risks/issues, using rigorous and structured approaches for both formal and informal settings.
  • Experience in managing project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
  • Guide and support team members in managing workstreams to deliver outputs that meet the highest agreed-upon quality standards and timelines.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and issues, escalating them to relevant team members promptly to mitigate their impact and maintain smooth project progression.

Efficiency & Analytical Support

  • Facilitate deep-dive business reviews driven by Zero-Based Budgeting frameworks, offering precise analyses and guidance to businesses for optimizing their operational efficiency.
  • Maintain expertise in industry trends, Capital Markets insights, and Zero-Based Budgeting practices to support informed, strategic decision-making within teams and projects.
  • Examine underlying connections between organizational plans, forecasts, business strategies, and investment cases to cultivate and embed a strong Productivity & Efficiency (P&E) mindset into all areas of planning and execution.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Create impactful, visually engaging presentation materials that summarize project progress and resonate with stakeholders and senior management based on their informational needs.
  • Analyze completed deliverables and outcomes meticulously; translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations presented in business, financial, and functional language relevant to executive audiences.
  • Leverage advanced Tableau and data visualization skills to design comprehensive dashboards that offer real-time insights into project metrics, KPIs, and efficiency indicators.
  • Utilize data analysis proficiency to interpret complex datasets, providing stakeholders with actionable insights that bridge the gap between raw data and informed decision-making.

What you need to succeed?

Must-haves

  • Undergraduate university degree in Business, Finance or a related field required 3-5 years of relevant Capital Markets experience and project management
  • Above all else, the ability to demonstrate mastery in Excel, Tableau, and PowerPoint, with a particular emphasis on storyboarding with the ability to create strong presentations
  • Comfort in fast-paced and high-performing environments with high complexity and ambiguity – dealing often with deadlines in hours rather than days
  • A proven track record of working on complex projects, utilizing key program management skills
  • Critical Thinking (proven capabilities to use careful evaluation and judgement)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Change Management mindset, with a passion for challenging the status quo in a collaborative manner
  • Growth mindset, resting on a relentless appetite to learn, be challenged and develop new skills
  • High degree of organization and multi-tasking ability
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize and get things done

Nice-to-have

  • Post-graduate degree - Masters in finance, economics, accounting or a similar field
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Demonstrated ability in stakeholder and relationship management
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to proactively work with other stakeholders in the bank to independently facilitate work
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, lookups, macros) and PowerPoint (strong storyboarding of executive level presentations)

What’s in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation
  • Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
  • Opportunities to do challenging work
  • Flexible work/life balance options
