The Department of Community Services has a GradCorps opportunity for a Fuels Management Technician. This position will help the incumbent develop diverse skills in wildfire mitigation, forest mensuration, writing proposals, tender documents, and technical reports, contract management, and GIS.

This position will work for a one-year Term from approximately May 2026 to April 2027. The salary will be 80% of the starting salary - $65,006

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma in Natural Resource Management or related field;

  • Experience conducting field work is an asset;

  • Experience compiling data and/or presenting findings is an asset;

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Proficiency using software such as Microsoft Office and ArcGIS Pro mapping software.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in an unpredictable and fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team during high-stress situations.

  • Ability to communicate technical data and information effectively through oral and written communication.

Additional Information

***Conditions of Employment:***Valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent); Valid Standard First Aid with CPR “C” certification (wilderness first aid with CPR“C” also acceptable)

Job Requirements: This position involves working in an office and outdoor environments. Work taking place in outdoor environments may include working in adverse and unpredictable weather conditions, working in isolated locations, encounters with wildlife, and may involve travel by truck, UTV, ATV, rotary or fixed wing aircraft. Operating off-road equipment (4-wheeler, boats, etc.) may be required. Wearing the appropriate PPE is required.

NOTE: To qualify for the GradCorps program, you must:

  • be a resident of Yukon or a person of Yukon First Nations ancestry*

  • have graduated with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution within the past two years (2024, 2025 or 2026 grads – all requirements for graduation must be complete before internship start date)

  • have little or no work experience in your field of study

  • If you are a resident of Yukon who completed your studies outside of the territory, you may apply up to two years after graduation.
