The Opportunity McElhanney is looking for a British Columbia Land Surveyor to join our growing Fort St. John team and help shape the future of the BC Peace Region. In this role, you’ll work on meaningful projects that directly impact local communities and the energy sector, while advancing your career in a supportive, collaborative environment.
As a Commissioned BC Land Surveyor part of our Fort St. John Geomatics Division, you’ll lead delivery of construction, engineering and legal surveys for oil and gas development, land development and infrastructure projects. You will work with an experienced group of field and office geomatics technologists who deliver projects across Northern BC. This role involves managing client relationships and serving as a trusted advisor – offering guidance and counsel when needed to help clients efficiently execute their projects.
Our work is dynamic, not routine and involves supporting long-standing clients who trust us to deliver their most important projects. With access to expertise from our regional offices, you’ll enjoy working with the resources of a large firm combined with the personalized culture of a smaller team.
The successful candidate is either already based in the Peace Region or willing to relocate to the Fort St John area. What You’ll Do
- Managing projects including working with clients to establish scope, budget, schedule and safety expectations.
- Providing advice and consulting clients on property and legal survey matters.
- Lead and direct field and office technical personnel on projects, communicating scope and schedule to crew members.
- Prepare deliverables and take professional responsibility for work products, managing information flow from field to final deliverables.
- Ensure quality assurance procedures are carried out and ensuring field returns, drawings and legal plans meet regulatory requirements.
- Providing mentorship, guidance, and training to members of your team.
- Other duties as required.
What You’ll Bring
- BCLS accreditation is required. Commissioned Land Surveyors from other jurisdictions with intent to attain ABCLS commission will be considered.
- Diploma or degree in Geomatics with strong data processing/computations skills.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications (MSCAD or Civil3D and GNSS processing software at minimum).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Periods of travel may be required for the role.
What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $145,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
