About Us
The Mandate of WAFAR is to accelerate interdisciplinary research by organizing and facilitating the selection of themes and teams (a variety of world-wide internal and external stakeholders such as researchers, community and industry partners) from applications received, to provide and maintain a venue for the interdisciplinary research of participants, to facilitate events of both scholarly and public interest, and to facilitate effective public dissemination of the deliverables of each theme’s work.
Key Goals of the Unit:
- Advance the goals of the WAFAR to support interdisciplinary teams in developing their research themes and engage Western, national and international external researchers in addressing major issues facing humanity through providing an effective venue to brainstorm and network with others in support of a common goal
- Assist the WAFAR research teams in developing compelling, high-quality outcomes, including but not limited to interdisciplinary external (national and international) funding opportunity submissions, and enhance Western’s profile as a research-intensive university.
- Promote and support innovation, collaboration, knowledge exchange and communication at WAFAR
Responsibilities
The Administrative Support supports the administration of physical and electronic resources for the unit. The incumbent may be responsible for administering key requisitions, office assignments, room bookings, office furniture and moving, supply ordering, phone set up and changes, phone directory, internal mailing lists, mail and report distribution, event coordination, and website content maintenance. The incumbent also provides general information and front line support to visitors to the unit, responds to phone and e-mail inquiries and refers inquiries to other resources.
Qualifications
Education:

Community College Diploma in an administrative field
Experience:
-
4 year of experience providing customer service in a business office setting
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Knowledge of general office procedures including records management systems
- Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
- Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Self-motivated multi-tasker with strong organizational skills
- Positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and follow through on work assignments
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
- Written and verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Customer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
