About the role
**Reports to:**Senior Project Accountant
Position Summary
The Project Accountant supports the financial tracking, analysis, and reporting of project-related activity across York Group’s commercial real estate portfolio. This role focuses on maintaining strong cost controls, improving internal processes, and providing accurate, timely financial information to support operational decision-making.
Working closely with the Accounting team and internal stakeholders, the Project Accountant delivers project-level financial insight related to tenant improvements, landlord work, and other property-related initiatives within a commercial real estate environment.
Key Responsibilities

Work closely with the Senior Project Accountant/Controller to maintain accurate and detailed project accounting across the commercial real estate portfolio.

Support the Senior Project Accountant with budget-to-actual tracking, variance analysis, and reporting for project-related costs

Maintain oversight of project budgets, quarterly forecasting, and monthly/quarterly reporting in collaboration with internal stakeholders
-
Track project-related purchase orders, change orders, and cost commitments
-
Project related accounting tracking of development project new builds, tenant improvements, and landlords work in new and existing buildings
-
Prepare monthly project accruals and ensure costs are recorded accurately and in the appropriate accounting periods
-
Prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly stakeholder reporting.

Prepare project-related Work in Progress (WIP) reporting, where applicable, and support internal review processes.

Draft project related financing requests to Quality Surveyors (QS) to facilitate draws from construction lenders
-
Assist with process improvements and implementation.

Provide guidance to Property Administrators on project-related tenant chargebacks and cost allocations
-
Other ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Controller, VP Accounting, and COO
What you bring to York
-
Education with a diploma or degree majoring in accounting
-
Minimum 5 years’ project accounting preferred
-
Minimum 2 years’ experience in construction or commercial real estate preferred
-
Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
-
Ability to remain objective and maintain a factual perspective when dealing with questions and inquiries
-
Sense of urgency and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment

Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail
