Position Summary
Ecotrust Canada is hiring Dockside Monitors for the T’aaq-wiihak fishery. Monitors will be based out of the traditional territory of the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation (Gold River).
We are hiring part-time staff available from May to October, several days a week, three days a week in August. The actual length of fisheries is determined through the season, and a set number of workdays is not guaranteed. Schedules are created monthly.

Our vision is for resilient fisheries that meet the immediate social and economic needs of adjacent communities without compromising ecological integrity or the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
Collection of accurate catch data. Legibly and accurately record data on multiple forms. Always maintain professional working relationships.
Skills And Qualifications
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. Organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent teamwork skills. Comfortable working on docks, fishing vessels, and handling fish. Comfortable with technology and digital tools, including data entry systems and reporting platforms. Completion of a Criminal Record Check.
Does NOT hold a fisher’s registration card or certificate of accreditation
Does NOT purchase fish to resell Is NOT an owner, operator, or employee of a business that catches, cultures, processes, or transports fish Mandatory training course is scheduled for May 19 to 22 in Gold River. Successful applicants must attend and pass the training course. A training stipend is provided during the course.
Pursuant to Section 16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act, preference will be given to Indigenous candidates who have a working knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth culture and fishing practices.
