About the role

Pay rate, benefits and other terms and conditions are as per the CUPE 139 Collective Agreement

CAMHU is a six bed crisis unit, providing brief admissions to children and adolescents with serious mental health problems. Support is provided by an interdisciplinary team with an emphasis on skills building and community integration.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
  • Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an asset
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years clinical experience working with youth who are experiencing mental health concerns
  • Demonstrated ability to complete Mental Status Exams and provision of crisis management required
  • Experience in evidence based management of severe and complex child and adolescent disorders
  • Experience with suicide safety planning for children, adolescents and their families required

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide commitment to family centred care

  • Computer skills required (Meditech, Word, Outlook, eDoc)

  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to function in a self-directed and self-initiated manner required

  • Excellent level of interpersonal skills required

  • Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills required

  • Ability to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care to mental health patients required

  • Ability to work as a collaborative member of the health team required

  • Ability to assume responsibility for patient care in a total patient care climate required

  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors

  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization

  • Good attendance and work record required

  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required.All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario

NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.

NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.
