About the role

The Lead Cleaner provides guidance to cleaning staff performing routine manual tasks in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, refuse removal and appearance of the C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. administrative buildings and tenants’ units. The Lead Cleaner also carries out hands-on duties as a member of a Cleaning Services Team and works closely with all employees and managers to ensure good communication in the development of

the cleaning services program.

Wage: $21.78 to $22.79 per hour

Key Responsibilities

1. General Cleaning

  • Mix various cleaning products in a safe manner

  • Transport staff and cleaning equipment from site to site as necessary

  • Complete cleaning within Infection Prevention and Control (I.P.A.C.) guidelines

  • Clean and disinfect C.M.H.A. offices and meeting room locations including garbage, refuse removal and general office cleaning services

  • Clean and disinfect C.M.H.A. client/tenant residences including floors and furniture, windows, appliances, bathrooms (cleaning sinks, toilets and showers) and vacuuming carpets

  • Communicate with clients regarding their cleaning needs

  • Clean and disinfect other apartments or locations by special request including hallways and laundry rooms

Administrative Tasks

  • Maintain inventory of supplies, order supplies as necessary Provide input to daily job schedule and prioritizing cleaning when there are absentees or vacation

2. Documentation

  • Maintain Cleaning Binder

  • Generates monthly cleaning schedule for managers’ review and approval

3. Other Activities

  • Interact and communicates with staff/clients on housing and/or property maintenance issues

  • Report client observations and/or concerns to support workers as appropriate

4. Performance Management and Professional Development

  • Participate cooperatively in the agency performance management process/system

  • Stay current on relevant legislation and best practices, current research, policies and procedures

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and mandatory training

  • Actively engage and participate in supervisory process

5. Health and Safety – Worker Responsibilities

  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health And Safety Act, applicable regulations and all organizational health and safety requirements and procedures to ensure the health and safety of clients, staff/colleagues, volunteers and students

6. Client Safety

Adhere to C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. client safety programs including program policies as well as infection control and prevention procedures. In partnership with clients, family members, and fellow staff, maintain open lines of communication to assist the organization in identifying and achieving quality outcomes for client safety. Report client safety incidents and suggested improvements to manager or delegate.

7. Other Duties as Assigned

  • Attend, participate in team/staff meetings, and all-staff meetings as required

  • Participate in agency quality improvement activities, e.g. accreditation projects, committee work, special events, etc.

  • Participate in quality improvement activities at the team/program level

  • Participate in external committees as required

  • Duties may change from time to time

Requirements of the Position:

A: Education and Training

Completion of secondary school diploma (O.S.S.D.) or equivalent

We recognize that mandatory training before hire is an asset, however, successful completion of the training applicable to this role shall be requirements for continued employment in this position:

    • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S. 2015)
    • I.P.A.C. – Infection Prevention and Control

    • O.D.A. – Accessibility for Ontarians With Disabilities Act
  • A.S.I.S.T. – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

  • Verbal Intervention Training

  • First Aid/C.P.R.

  • Propane Cylinder Training

  • Disinfecting 101 (S.W.I.S.H.)

Mandatory experience

  • 2 to 3 years experience cleaning including 1 year in a lead cleaning role

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Automobile in good repair and insurance coverage as required by agency policy

  • Satisfactory police records search

  • Satisfactory references

  • Intermediate to advanced minus proficiency in French

  • Lived expertise with a mental health concern or addiction, either personally or with a family member is an asset

  • Proof of receipt of full COVID-19 vaccine

  • Requirement to have reliable home internet service and the technology to complete work from a location other than C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. offices, as required

Working Conditions:

  • Regularly works in the community (clients’ homes) in various types of settings and regularly in an office setting (C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. administrative offices)
  • Has contact with individuals living with serious mental illness and/or dual diagnosis and/or addictions, individuals who are experiencing emotional and/or mental health issues
  • Work environment may consist of noise, odours, heat, cold, dirt, oil, chemicals, fumes, severe weather, bodily fluids etc.
