About The Position The Regional Manager is responsible for the overall management of operations in the Maritimes. The primary focus of this role is to achieve a high level of client satisfaction and engagement while meeting budgeted financial and operational targets. This role will drive growth through exceptional service, key client visitation, key account retention, innovation, and effective cost management. This role works with functional support teams and is responsible for ensuring adherence to corporate Quality Programs and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) programs. Finally, this role leads in fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes safety and quality, values employee engagement and develops people.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Drive market share growth through industry contacts, market visibility, and exceptional quality and service.
  • Perform client meetings in accordance with targets, sharing innovation and service data, understanding client needs, and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Ensure productivity targets and turn-around time (TAT) commitments are achieved in a safe and sustainable manner by effectively balancing resources and sample volumes.
  • Run monthly disciplined management meetings, tracking key business metrics, strategic actions, and coaching the team on client service and operational excellence.
  • Meet or exceed all budgeted financial and business targets, including ROS, underlying EBIT, and TEC, with a focus on sustained margin improvement.
  • Develop the annual operating budget and strategy for the Business Unit and work with the management team to execute the strategy and achieve budgeted targets.
  • Actively support the quality program mandates including conducting routine checks, staff training, participating in audits, resolving quality issues in a timely manner, and ensuring that quality targets are met or exceeded.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by communicating and upholding the ALS Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies and programs.
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure human resources are effectively managed, including recruiting, performance management, employee relations, attendance promotion, and staff scheduling as it relates to the operations.
  • Maintain a continuous focus on employee development and cross training with an eye toward identifying and growing key talent.
  • Actively support employee engagement through corporately developed or local initiatives that solicit employee feedback and recognize their contribution.
  • Embody the ALS Core Values and foster a workplace culture that consistently reflects these values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong professional network in the environmental sector in the Maritimes.
  • A robust background in the environmental industry and the ability to quickly foster rapport with all stakeholders including clients and regulatory agencies.
  • A client-oriented drive to succeed, while balancing the needs of the client with the business.
  • Strong negotiation skills with experience in pursuit, capture, and execution of contracts.
  • Effective client retention and experience in relationship building and client partnerships.
  • A strong orientation towards service quality, technical innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Strong business acumen, coupled with the ability to interpret financial data, make effective decisions and execute any necessary changes.
  • An unwavering commitment to employee safety.
  • A history of actively engaging employees, supporting people development and growing key talent.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate employees across multiple locations to achieve a common vision.
  • Able to effectively manage change in a dynamic environment and balance multiple priorities within tight time deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills including use of MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized BSc. degree or technical diploma in environmental, chemistry or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental sector.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management or supervisory experience in the environmental sector.
  • Familiarity with the environmental industry in the Maritimes.

Physical Demands

  • Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary tasks.
  • Able to work with a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Able to wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
  • May be exposed to unpleasant odours.
