Intermediate Mechanical Designer

About the role

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager - Machine Design, the Mechanical Designer is part of a team responsible for the development and maintenance of the equipment used in the manufacture and installation CORE Linepipe products. The position requires the candidate to develop strong relationships between engineering, manufacturing, and field operations in order to bring the best products, equipment and experiences to our customers. The ideal candidate must be willing to work in both an office and a manufacturing environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive general instructions from the Engineering Manager on projects and specific assignment goals, objectives, and deliverables
  • Design equipment and processes that will be used in the manufacture and installation of CORE products
  • Prepare CAD models, drawings, and specifications in order to fully document new and existing equipment
  • Develop and maintain documentation relating to the design, manufacture, and maintenance of current and new equipment
  • Evaluate and test existing equipment and processes for potential improvements in safety, quality, reliability, and efficiency
  • Evaluate and test new equipment and processes against the target design parameters and goals, and make adjustments based on the outcomes
  • Collaborate with, and peer-review the work of other designers, engineers, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments
  • May function as a lead designer for small to medium-sized projects
  • Maintain close contact with operations staff, field personnel, vendors and others in process of project completion
  • Provide project-based based technical support to Manufacturing, and Field Services
  • Participate in progress reporting against baseline plans at an appropriate cadence to achieve prescribed goals and objectives

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

  • Degree or diploma in a relevant field (e.g. Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, etc)
  • 3-5 years of relevant mechanical/machine design experience required
  • 5+ years of relevant mechanical/machine design experience preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing / fabrication setting is preferred
  • Functional experience with 3D CAD modeling and drafting required (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Working knowledge of drafting standards such as ASME Y14
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and problem-solving abilities

LOCATION

Your primary location of employment will be at the CORE Linepipe manufacturing facility in Crossfield, Alberta with some travel to the Calgary office, or field visits.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (QMS)

  • Understand and apply the CORE Quality Policy
  • Be aware of the CORE QMS
  • Participate actively in training, operational improvement teams, preventative and corrective actions and identifying non-conformities, and
  • Identifying, understanding, and applying applicable standard operating procedures and work instructions.
