- The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.

- WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- The RPN as one of the providers of the GABU health care team on the GABU unit, has a unique role in care; promoting wellness and health, in preventing illness and responsive behaviour. The RPN in helping attain and maintain the highest level of health possible in situations in which their condition is relatively stable, less complex and the outcomes of care are predictable. They practice and provide care in accordance with the Professional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- · Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- · Current BCLS
- · Demonstrated extensive knowledge working with individuals with various types of dementia, delirium, mental health concerns and addictions, and other neurological conditions, and those who experience a behaviour change.
- · Enhanced knowledge of family and caregiver needs who can best be served by a behavioural support system.
- · Training/knowledge of Gentle Persuasion Approach (GPA), P.I.E.C.E.S. TM, U-First!. Montessori for Dementia, Recovery/psychosocial rehabilitation preferred or willingness to receive training.
- · Previous experience or willingness to train for MDS data tracking/RAI and care planning functions.
- · Current clinical practice in mental health, geriatrics or LTC preferred
- · Courses in Gerontology, Behavioural Management, Conflict Resolution, Mental Health and or neurology preferred
- WHO YOU ARE:
- · Added Nursing Skills - Venipuncture, IV initiation, medication, CVADs, insert, set-up and maintain G-tubes, insert catheters and performs manual irrigations, initiates and maintains CADD and Hickman lines.
- · Demonstrated person and caregiver focused care and supported by best evidence based clinical practices
- · Good understanding of non-pharmacological and therapeutic behavioural approaches
- · Good understanding of pharmacological agents, and their interactions, that are used to manage conditions that have behavioural components along the disease continuum
- · Demonstrated trouble shooting and problem solving approach relative to behavioural exacerbations
- · Excellent assessment skills.
- · Demonstrated ability in planning and coordination of care and resources for residents/clients.
- · Excellent verbal communication and documentation skills.
- · Good critical thinking skills for the early detection, intervention and prevention of responsive behaviours
- · Good conflict resolution skills.
- · Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with patients/families, staff, physicians and the community.
- · Demonstrated enthusiasm, flexibility and ability to cope with change in previous/present work experience.
