The Opportunity

TC Energy is looking to hire a summer student in Vancouver, B.C, Calgary, Alberta, or Toronto, Ontario for a 4-month term, to support External Relations activities in the areas of technology, public support, and advocacy.

As part of the Strategy, Governance & Planning team within External Relations Canada, you will support public opinion research, campaigns, and digital initiatives as part of how we build and sustain public support.

We are seeking students enrolled in relevant post-secondary programs such as Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Communications, Journalism, or Business.

What you’ll do

  • Campaign and stakeholder support

    • Support campaigns that inform, educate, and mobilize key stakeholders
    • Develop digital and print materials for campaigns
    • Attend industry and community events to better understand stakeholder priorities
    • Assist in engagements with key stakeholders that shape public opinion
  • Research and analysis

    • Coordinate, review and analyze public opinion research
    • Develop an understanding of key drivers of public support for nationally important energy and infrastructure projects
  • Technology tools

    • Support the development of technology and AI initiatives such as research tools, data visualization, and sentiment analysis
    • Support administration of technology tools like SharePoint, PowerBI, Dynamics, and Monday.com as required
  • Travel within Canada may be required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in a relevant post-secondary field such as Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Communications, Journalism, or Business, or related undergraduate degree program with at least one semester of education completed
  • Enrollment at an accredited University or College, and returning to school for at least one semester following your work term
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) with a willingness to learn advanced features
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with political, grassroots, social media, or public consultation campaigns
  • Demonstrate a high level of discretion and safety in both professional and personal settings
  • Exhibit the TC Energy corporate values or Safety in Every Step, Personal Accountability, Active Learning, and One Team; incorporating them into work activities and initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal and communicative skills to work efficiently in a collaborative team environment
  • Experience leveraging AI tools such as Copilot or ChatGPT while demonstrating strong relational and strategic thinking
  • Commitment to building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to accurately analyze information and deal with ambiguity
  • Adaptable to a dynamic and challenging environment with changing priorities
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Reflective and committed to continuous improvement and personal development
