About the role

Kuva Canada, a subsidiary of Sensirion Connected Solutions, is hiring a Data Engineer to join our team developing and maintaining the data architecture that powers data science and algorithms teams to build workflows that operate on large-scale image datasets. Our fleet of cameras uploads TBs of data per week which need to be validated, cleaned and organized to enable efficient data science workflows.

This role is well suited to an engineer and data architect with hands-on experience designing and implementing scalable data pipelines for high frequency, high bandwidth data. You’ll be responsible for overall data ingestion, transformation and storage for data science applications. You will collaborate with the production software engineering team and work closely with software and machine learning engineers for both internal and customer-facing use cases.

Sensirion Connected Solutions with its Kuva product line specializes in camera-based and point sensor IoT-solutions for continuous methane emissions monitoring in the oil and gas industry. At the Sensirion group of companies, we make the difference in sensing for a better world through continuous emissions monitoring, and it is our people that make the difference in our solutions and customer experience. Our culture values taking ownership of problems while working together with all stakeholders using Teamwork, Top Performance and Fair & Honest, the core values of Sensirion. If you are ready to solve challenging problems and are interested in becoming a part of the story, apply today!

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement the next generation of data science infrastructure for Kuva’s fleet of gas imaging systems:
    • Refine and maintain a medallion-style Data Lake on Azure (Raw/Bronze, Silver, Gold tiers).
    • Build ETL/ELT pipelines ingesting IoT telemetry, JSON records and multi-TB image data.
    • Develop processes for converting semi-structured JSON (e.g. detection lists, image metadata documents) into efficient Delta Lake/Parquet formats that support data science needs.
  • Enable large-scale data science & analytics projects:
    • Provide clean, performant data access for the Python-first data science team.
    • Design data models to support traceability for ML and algorithm development experiments.
    • Support querying both structured telemetry (sensor performance and health stats, wind metrics) and unstructured assets (images and image metadata).
  • Operationalize and scale:
    • Implement monitoring, logging and data quality checks across pipelines.
    • Optimize storage tiering (e.g. hot, cool, archive) to balance cost vs. performance.
    • Ensure compliance with data retention and security policies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally:
    • Work closely with data scientists, software engineers, and the product team to translate research needs into production-ready datasets and tools.
    • Partner with DevOps to streamline CI/CD for production-grade data workflows and applications.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-6+ years in a data engineering or equivalent role.

  • Experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure Blob Storage, CosmosDB, or equivalent.

  • Proficiency with ETL/ELT tooling (Azure Data Factory, PySpark, Databricks or equivalent).

  • Solid Python skills encompassing both analysis/visualization and pipeline/infrastructure code.

  • Experience with Delta Lake/Parquet and schema design for structured and semi-structured data.

  • Knowledge of data modeling, data governance, and observability best practices.

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent education or work experience

  • Thrives in a growing and dynamic environment/team.

  • Purpose driven and willing to continuously evolve/improve.

  • Ability to set priorities and critical thinking skills

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams locally and globally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with IoT sensors at scale or high-throughput telemetry pipelines

  • Familiarity with computer vision data pipelines (image storage at scale, image metadata indexing, high-volume ML training)

  • Background in environmental sensing, energy services, or industrial IoT

  • Experienced in working in a fast-moving and self-directed small company environment

Benefits:

Comprehensive benefits package including bonus program, extended health and dental insurance.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

About Kuva Systems

Oil and Gas
11-50

Kuva makes the invisible measurable and thereby manageable. Our industrial IoT platform provides a fully automated, image-based, continuous methane monitoring and quantification solution. It enables upstream and midstream oil and gas companies to improve their operations and meet ESG and methane intensity goals. Kuva features a low-cost camera that pinpoints methane release locations and quantifies flow rates based on minute-by-minute measurements. Leak analytics can be used to prioritize operational responses, quantify ongoing conditions, and confirm nominal performance.
