About the role

South Country Co-op is hiring a Director of Finance on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is based at our Business Support Centre in Medicine Hat, AB

What you’ll do:

As the Director of Finance, you will be responsible for leading the Finance administration function. This position is responsible for implementing financial strategies, programs and the initiatives in the organization and providing input into the development of organizational financial strategies. You will also provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the finance team.

  • Leading the Finance Administration function, which includes leading the coordination, preparation and review of finical statements and data, general accounting, cost management, budgeting.
  • Develop and maintain accounting principles, practices, and procedures and collaborate with Senior Leadership Team to ensure consistent alignment of financial programs and practices across the organization.
  • Lead the Finance Administration function, in successfully managing change during system rollouts, in a structured approach that includes planning, communication, training, and ongoing support, ensuring minimal disruption and maximizing system efficiencies.
  • Provide leadership to the Finance team, which include team members and team leaders. Responsible for the talent management cycle, including recruitment, development and training, performance management, etc.
  • Responsible for the development of policies to support the key activities and programs.
  • Participate in strategic planning, annual planning and goal setting and ensure marketing efforts support the Strategic Plan / Annual Plan / Budget.
  • Forecast and anticipate business challenges and opportunities and ensures the company’s financial and regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for preparing, organizing and conducting internal audits.
  • Undertake periodic reporting.

Who you are:

  • Hold CPA, CA, CMA, CGA designation or equivalent education.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance or Business.
  • Have a minimum of 10+ years’ experience of relevant progressively responsible experience in finance with 2+ years at a management level.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ generalist experience within Finance.
  • Lead teams through system changes and administered change management processes
  • You hold a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • You are honest, trustworthy, results oriented, and strive to be the best in what you do.
  • You believe in collaboration, building relationships, and value the perspectives of others.
