About the role
Role Overview Working as part of a team, each Consulting Scientist is accountable for the development and regional delivery of programs and objectives supporting Science at Bureau Veritas. Consulting Scientists report into the regions General Manager, and all work closely with regional leaders from Operations, Customer Service and Business Development. The Consulting Scientist is a customer facing position. Key Responsibilities Serve as the ultimate client resource for science and technology related issues specific to Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation
- Provide relevant scientific/technical knowledge and expertise for regional colleagues in Operations, Customer Service and Business Development. Work with Operations and Quality Assurance staff to ensure that Bureau Veritas’ operational procedures and processes are in line with clients’ scientific and regulatory requirements.
- Acts as a resource to Bureau Veritas and its clients in solving market-specific problems.
- Design and manage the execution of special projects to solve problems inherent in the environmental marketplace on an as needed basis
- For larger scale and more complex projects and for specific key clients, acts as project manager
- Provide support through: data review, data mining and trend evaluation to ensure the appropriate level of quality in all analytical data and processes to meet the needs of the customer, as needed
- Advises and assists in the development, enhancement, implementation and operation of computer integrated production resources and management systems that apply to operational departments and their clients;
- Advocate on behalf of Bureau Veritas and the Site Assessment and Remediation industry through participation in industry associations, technical advisory groups, etc. to ensure that regulatory changes and updates are based on “good science”, and that Bureau Veritas and our customers are kept up-to-date on regulatory changes.
- Assist in the evaluation of new technologies and development of new analytical methods and products to support business growth plans. Establish relationships with technology suppliers so that Bureau Veritas is positioned and is recognized as a thought leader in new and emerging technologies that may be critical to the development of strategic business plans;
- Provide intellectual support to formal and informal R&D programs throughout the Bureau Veritas network.
- Responsible for ensuring that the regional customer base and Bureau Veritas employees are kept aware of current science, technology and regulatory developments both at Bureau Veritas and in the industry
- Compose and compile educational training curriculum in areas of expertise
- Organize, coordinate delivery of educational programs to clients and employees through webinars, tech talks, presentations, etc.
- Develop internal and external training materials and collateral such as technical bulletins, white papers, research papers, etc.
Skills & Knowledge
- University Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science or Engineering;
- Minimum 7 - 10 years of experience in a chemical or environmental science consulting role. Laboratory experience not necessarily required;
- Earned credibility in the Environmental testing and/or consulting marketplace;
- Excellent business skills: writing and verbal communications, presentation style, strategic planning and execution, customer centric attitude, etc.
- Energetic, self-motivated and ability to multi-task
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with others, influencing desired outcomes
- Relevant professional association and/or provincial designation
Working Conditions

- High level of work production in a fast paced work environment
- May require flexible working hours, according to business demands
- Workflow is determined by business needs and requires a positive attitude and ability to keep up with a fast paced environment in order to meet deadlines and maintain customer service standards
