The Department of Executive and Indigenous Affairs works to provide overall management and direction to the Executive branch of the Government of the Northwest Territories. The Department is responsible for: coordinating and supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of initiatives and actions in support of cross-government goals The Department is responsible for ensuring mutually respectful intergovernmental relations between the territorial government and Aboriginal, provincial, territorial and national and international governments are maintained; along with negotiating and implementing land, resources And self-government agreements that address Aboriginal rights in the Northwest Territories.
Job Information
The Department of Executive and Indigenous Affairs is seeking a detail-oriented and resourceful Research and Administration Officer to support the Implementation Division. This role provides research, analytical, and administrative support related to land, resources, and self-government agreements, and contributes to reconciliation efforts across the GNWT.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and analysis to support agreement negotiations and implementation planning.
- Maintain datasets on Indigenous governments and summarize relevant legislation and agreements.
- Update and manage the Implementation and Reconciliation Accountability and Management System (IRAMS).
- Provide administrative support including meeting coordination, records management, and logistics.
- Prepare reports, briefing materials, and correspondence for senior staff.
Key Qualifications:
- A combination of a diploma or certificate in a program that requires research, plus one year of relevant experience.
- Relevant education may include, but is not limited to, Business Administration, Communications, Social Sciences and Indigenous Governments Studies.
- Strong research, analytical and organization skills.
- Proficiency in office software and database systems.
Equivalencies:
- A high school diploma with 3 years of relevant work experience providing research, analytical and administrative support to a team.
- Completion of specialized training or certification in research methods, data analysis or Indigenous governance, paired with 3 years of relevant work experience providing research, analytical and administrative support to a team.
