Why is this role important?
The Project Manager is responsible for leading the successful planning, execution, and delivery of medium to large-scale projects that support CIHI’s business objectives. This role involves developing detailed project plans, managing budgets, schedules, resources, risks, and stakeholder engagement. The Project Manager leads multidisciplinary teams through a matrix organization, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget. This role also supports portfolio management practices and promotes project management best practices across the organization.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain project charters, detailed plans, and implementation activities in alignment with CIHI’s project management standards.
- Lead project lifecycle activities including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closing.
- Manage project budgets, resource plans, forecasts, and reporting.
- Liaise with functional authorities to secure technical, business, and corporate support resources.
- Monitor and manage project risks, issues, scope, schedule, and budget; recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement and communication, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding issues.
- Produce project artifacts and reports to communicate project status, progress, and health.
- Lead lessons learned reviews and support operational transition at project closure.
- Support the enhancement of portfolio management practices including portfolio definition, value optimization, and monitoring.
- Act as a project management ambassador, contributing to the evolution of project management discipline and training within the organization.
- Apply Agile methodologies and support Agile project management practices.
What you'll bring to the table
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Project Management, Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required.
- Scrum Master certification is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years managing medium to large-scale projects or programs.
- Experience managing projects with significant Information Technology components, including enterprise-wide IT solutions (web, data, architecture, applications, infrastructure, security, Cloud).
- Experience with project portfolio management and change management.
- Agile project management experience.
- Experience with programming languages such as R or Python is preferred.
- Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Strong interpersonal, facilitation, consultation, negotiation, and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a matrix management structure and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to mentor and develop others.
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
- Familiarity with healthcare industry and not-for-profit environments is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Must comply with all CIHI workplace policies, including privacy and confidentiality.
- Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
