About the role

Group Controller

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the accounting functions while monitoring, analyzing and reporting the financial performance of a group of plants. Specific areas of responsibility normally include the review of the plant financial reporting, cost accounting, forecasts and budgets and internal controls; analysis and interpretation of trends for management's attention; preparation of findings and specific recommendations to senior management. Additionally, overseeing two or more plants located either in one geographic region or across multiple regions.

Performance Expectations:

  • Provide monthly and yearly comparative financial information to senior management for planning and to foster continuous improvements.
  • Review cost and profit estimates for new and existing product lines and monthly cost reports and trends.
  • Maintain and make recommendations for an adequate information system to measure financial and operational results of the plants.
  • Co-ordinate and participate in the preparation of the Five year Annual Business plan.
  • Work closely with senior management in directing and controlling resources.
  • Review and participate in the sales quotation process and work closely with sales team
  • Responsible for filling the accounting manager position should the role become vacant. The accounting manager will be responsible for filling positions of those who report directly to them.
  • Ensure plant compliance to the Company’s internal controls and make recommendations regarding a system on internal controls.
  • Ensure the company’s accounting computing needs including EDI are met on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure statutory financial obligations including audit, tax and other Government filings are completed on a timely and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for Tax Compliance, including Transfer Price Study.
  • Available for special corporate assignments as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Credentials:

  • A university degree in business administration, accounting or related field with an internationally recognized professional accounting designation is required.
  • Minimum of five years of management experience in related field.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Must be fully proficient in both written and oral English language skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills to analyze revenue, profit and liabilities and make sound financial decisions.
  • Strong communication skills to discuss prices, products and services and delivery arrangements with service providers and suppliers.
  • Ability to use graphs displaying revenues, expenses, liabilities and assets.
  • Strong interaction with co-workers and act as a liaison between different departments and different geographic regions.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of applicable software programs.
  • Continuously maintain current knowledge of all organizational accounting practices through seminars, webinars and professional conferences as needed.
