Faculty, Digital Fabrication & Design
The School of Arts & Technology is seeking a qualified instructor with expertise in mechanical design, technical drawings, digital fabrication, and 3D printing to teach in the Digital Fabrication & Design Diploma program located at the Selkirk College campus in Trail, BC.
Teaching responsibilities include DFAB 103 Design for Digital Fabrication 2D, DFAB 105 Design for Additive Manufacturing, and DFAB 106 Additive Manufacturing I. The successful candidate will share Selkirk College’s student-centred values and mission to “inspire generations of changemakers through relevant, inventive and sustainable education."

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide instruction to students in the Digital Fabrication and Design program.
- Prepare and deliver teaching strategies and assessments that meet course learning outcomes, including fundamental 3D design skills and 2D drawing skills.
- Ensure students adhere to standard operating procedures; correctly install, operate and maintain all machines; and follow safety protocols.
- Ensure curriculum alignment with the Selkirk College Strategic Vision and industry trends.
- Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback promptly.
- Be a positive and active participant in the program’s responsibilities.
- Create and maintain a positive and respectful learning environment while always acting with professionalism.
- Maintain student records, grades, and course outlines while adhering to institutional standards and expectations for professional practice.
- Other related duties as assigned by the School Chair.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Expertise in solid and parametric 3D modeling software. (Autodesk Fusion 360 preferred or willingness to learn before classes start.)
- Ability to demonstrate basic surface modeling techniques (Autodesk Fusion 360 or Rhino preferred.)
- In-depth knowledge of additive manufacturing (AM) processes, including design-for-additive principles, materials, print orientation, and support structures.
- Knowledge of various post-processing techniques for AM. Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting FDM and SLA 3D printers (familiarity with SLS and other AM methods is an asset).
- Fluency in a 3D printing slicing software.
- Understanding of mechanical design theory, tensile testing procedures and ability to perform calculations.
- Experience producing and/or publishing technical or scientific reports.
- Experience implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for machine maintenance and lab safety.
- Experience producing functional parts and mechanical assemblies using AM
- Ability to lead and assess collaborative student projects involving mechanical design, human-centred design, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Knowledge of Bill of Material (BOM) creation and cost estimation for parts and assemblies.
- Ability to create technical 2D drawings of parts and assemblies in a computer modelling software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry technical drawing standards as it pertains to mechanical design, fabrication, architecture, or construction fields (e.g. ASME, ISO, other).
- Knowledge of environmental impacts and sustainability considerations in materials selection and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to lead and assess collaborative student projects involving mechanical design, human-centered design, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Openness to feedback and commitment to reflective teaching practices.
- Strong desire to collaborate with colleagues, contributing to a positive, respectful, and innovative teaching environment.
Education and Experience
- Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in a related program, such as Industrial Design, Fabrication, or Engineering.
- Minimum three years of directly related professional experience.
- Training in education, preferably adult education, is strongly recommended.
- Post-secondary teaching experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated curriculum development skills are an asset.
- A combination of equivalent experience and education may be considered.
- Applicants are required to submit an electronic portfolio of 5-10 pieces demonstrating their skills in 3D modelling, mechanical design, fabrication, and 2D technical drawings and include any industry project experience related to these subjects.
This is a short-term, part-time (37.5%) position, commencing August 10, 2026, and ending April 29, 2027. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the SCFA Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,709.12 - $4,341.23 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience. Preference will be given to SCFA members who are on layoff status and eligible for recall, as outlined in Articles 5.6 and 5.9 of the SCFA Collective Agreement.
