Reporting to the QA/QC Supervisor, the Quality Control Inspector provides assistance and direction to supervisors in the performance of inspections, tests and completion of documentation covering welding, mechanical, rotating equipment, electrical and instrumentation disciplines. This position also inspects materials and incoming products to ensure compliance with the applicable construction codes and company standards. Quality Control will perform spot checks and other quality audits to ensure procedures and practices are being followed and will participate in final inspections as well as the coordination and supervision of all non-destructive examinations.

This is a local to Metro Vancouver opportunity, where we are looking for a CWB L2 ASME 31.3 for an ongoing project in the Burnaby area. CIMS is open to explore opportunities as an employee or an independent contractor relationship.

YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

Ensure all incoming and outgoing materials and fabrications meet applicable construction codes and company standards. Ensure inspections and tests are completed and as per the applicable construction codes and company standards. Ensure all QC/QA documentation is complete. Interact with client representatives and execution team members to co-ordinate work and exchange information during quality meetings. Interact with client representatives and execution team members to monitor progress and correct work that does not meet quality standards. Perform material receiving inspection, review of material test reports (MTR’s) for each job, assign a material receiving number, complete an inspection report and enter information into the material receiving log. Monitor that the appropriate material ID’s, PO and/or job numbers are marked on each piece of material and such information is transferred to individual pieces before cutting. Carry out visual welding inspections and identify repair areas. Perform dimensional inspections and monitor NDE activities ensuring they are in compliance with the applicable construction code and specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of secondary school or equivalent or a combination of education and related experience. Certifications required CWB Level II. API 510 or 570 would be an asset. 2-4 years of related quality control and/or assurance experience. Must be able to read blueprints and interpret engineering drawings in addition to GDT. Ability to read and understand company procedures, quality manuals and client standards to avoid inspection errors. Must be able to use measuring equipment effectively, micrometers, Vernier’s, height and bore gauges. May measure products to assess conformity to quality standards, basic math skills required. Ability to problem solve and determine reasons for errors in products. Use technical skills and knowledge to identify cause of problem. Make continuous improvement recommendations to Quality Lead. Familiar with ISO 9001 requirements is an asset. Use computer applications to monitor quality. High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to problem solve. Experience with Bluebeam or Adobe software programs.

WORK CONDITIONS

May be required to work outside of normal work hours on occasion to meet deadlines. Work requires repetitive movement and lifting, frequent standing and walking are required. Some work at heights, on structures, vessels or scaffold and may be required to use fall arrest equipment in some areas. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. Confined space entry may be required, project dependent.
