##Payroll Technician

The City of North Vancouver Finance Department, Payroll Division, is looking for a temporary full-time Payroll Technician to join their team for approximately two years.

Reporting to the Manager, Payroll, you will be responsible for coordinating payroll processing. This involves ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of bi-weekly payrolls; reviewing, adjusting and processing a variety of payroll related data; compiling and balancing year-end reports; verifying various payroll and benefit records; controlling, running and verifying payroll programs; processing remittances; assisting with the preparation and completing of T4’s; establishing deductions and additional earnings; preparing functional specifications for enhancements or new functionality; and assisting in the creation and configuration of earning codes, deduction codes, and special accumulators when required.

You will also assist in reviewing, recommending and implementing regulations and other requirements pertinent to payroll processing. In addition, you will be responsible for preparing supporting documentation for monthly billings; creating spreadsheet documents using Excel; liaising with a variety of internal and external contacts; and assisting the Manager, Payroll as required.

You will have completed Grade 12, supplemented by related courses in payroll administration and/or CPA courses. You will hold a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification. You will have at least 5 years payroll experience with complex computer software, preferably Peoplesoft.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in a municipal environment. Considerable experience in MS Office, particularly in Excel is also required.

For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.

Salary: $34.63 to $40.74 per hour
(Pay Grade 19 – January 2024 rates)
This position has a pay structure with five steps, which increase annually.

Hours of Work: The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
