If so, an opportunity is available for you at Unit 84 of the Rockyview General Hospital. Unit 84 is a 24 bed General Surgery Unit that admits a variety of elective and emergent patients with surgical needs including Gynecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Orthopedic, Urology, and General Surgery. It is an ideal unit to develop acute surgical care experience and develop specialized skills from a wide variety of surgical specialties within the context of Patient and Family Centered Care. Unit 84 delivers genuine care to a wide variety of complex and diverse patients and their families, and staff are recognized regularly by patients and families for their outstanding efforts. The LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care on an acute surgical unit. The LPN demonstrates a professional and caring approach to patients and families, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) and the standards of Alberta Health Services. New nurse professional development is supported through regular structured performance reviews, Unit based Peer Development Reviews, and Peer Performance Development Mentorship program. Unit 84 is well known as a supportive and enthusiastic mentoring environment for new staff. Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Minimum 2 years' experience on surgical nursing unit. Demonstrated aptitude with computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with electronic health record systems Connect Care an asset. Current certification with central lines, blood glucose monitoring, PCA, Narcan administration, IV insertion, infusion and medication administration. Current experience with VAC dressing, tube feeds, TPN, wound and skin care.
