Position Title: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor
Location: Bob Chan-Kent Family YMCA (45844 Hocking Ave, Chilliwack)
Term: Part-Time Permanent
Hours: 4-24 hours per week
Shift: Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings and weekends.
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $23.01-25.44 per hour
Reports To: Supervisor, Aquatics
Nature & Scope
The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment.
Major Responsibilities**-in this position, you will:**
- Guard and teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional manner
- Develop and lead lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants
- Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues
- Perform routine pool maintenance, as required
- Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staff
- Promote philanthropy through the annual fundraiser campaign
- Strong work ethic and able to remain flexible
- Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices
Qualifications**-you bring:**
- Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years)
- CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)
- National Lifeguard - Pool Option
- Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent
- Experience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferred
- YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred
- Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle
- Advanced leadership courses are an asset
- Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
