Position type: fixed-term contract Compensation: $22/hour Start date: December 18, 2025 Deadline to apply: November 10, 2025 at 5pm Description The Event Assistant is The Bentway’s onsite staff representative and will assist with operations and events onsite to ensure they run smoothly. They will manage the daily schedule and address unforeseen logistical challenges involving suppliers, vendors and other key stakeholders, and will provide customer service to the Bentway’s visitors. About The Bentway works “to ignite the urban imagination”, using the city as site, subject, and canvas. Anchored under Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway and guiding its complex future, The Bentway is a growing public space, and much more. We are a new type of civic organization: a not-for-profit, powered by vital partnerships with the City of Toronto, residents, supporters, artists, city-builders, and dreamers. The Bentway is a creative catalyst rooted in experimentation, leading a creative movement to re-imagine the opportunities of urban spaces. Key responsibilities
- Serve as a front-line customer service representative for visitors and other members of the public.
- Facilitate entry and exit of visitors in accordance with pre-registration/walk-up protocols, if applicable.
- Assist with and/or perform first aid, depending on training.
- Monitor and record site conditions on an hourly basis, noting weather, attendance and noise.
- Periodically make announcements to facilitate operations.
- Open the site or close the site as needed.
- Help to maintain order onsite by identifying and addressing hazards and overcrowding, together with Bentway staff.
- Recommend changes and/or improvements to equipment, facilities and procedures and report problems to the Facilities Supervisor.
- Escalate situations to the Facilities Supervisor, as needed, but definitely in case of severe injury, incidents relating to staff or public safety or if media are involved.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with the public.
- Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic.
- Experience in a public space and events, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays in varying and extreme weather conditions
- Ability to work with limited supervision after an initial training period
- Current standard level First Aid/CPR-C and familiarity with current health and safety practices and requirements would be an asset.

The Bentway, formerly known as Project: Under Gardiner, is a unique and innovative public space that will transform the vacant and forgotten area underneath Toronto's Gardiner Expressway into a new gathering place for our city's growing population.
Stretching from Strachan Avenue to Spadina Avenue, this 1.75 km trail and series of public spaces will knit together seven neighbourhoods – Exhibition Place, Liberty Village, Niagara, Fort York Neighbourhood, Bathurst Quay, Wellington Place and CityPlace – and become a gateway to the waterfront, while providing access to important attractions and destinations – from the Molson Amphitheatre to the Rogers Centre and Harbourfront Centre. This dynamic new urban corridor will activate the community with a continuous multi-use trail providing access to year-round activities and events, including gardens, a skating rink, recreational amenities, public markets, public art, special exhibitions, festivals, theatre and musical performances and more.
