What is the opportunity? An integral member of RBC Compliance’s Leadership team that acts as the thought leader responsible for manage the regulatory change management risks with a particular focus on acting as a key integration point for cross enterprise, horizontal regulatory change initiatives. Taking a strategic, pragmatic and risk based approach, this role advises senior leaders in Compliance and the business in identifying and prioritizing regulatory change initiatives, sets out mitigation strategies and co-creates successful implementation plans and tactics by working with Platform CCOs, Compliance Oversight & Advisory team leaders, other colleagues in Compliance responsible for functional groups.
As leader of the the Canadian Regulatory Change team, this role supports the wealth management, capital markets and personal and commercial banking businesses in Canada. This role provides an opportunity to support RBC’s businesses in navigating Canada’s changing regulatory landscape. Specifically, this role is responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing administration and compliance with Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Regulatory Change control standard which includes ensuring proper risk and impact assessments of regulatory changes, effective project management and Management Information Reporting. This role also promotes and champions global best practices related to common program elements and acts as Centre of Expertise for Canada. What will you do? Strategy and Thought Leadership
- Sets the strategy and provides thought leadership that promotes the proactive and effective identification, prioritization, and management of regulatory change initiatives in Canada
- Employs strategic vision, frameworks, and dynamic approaches to ensure adherence with regulatory change requirements while keeping a pulse on regulatory and industry trends along with new or proposed regulatory changes
- In a second line of defense (2LoD) capacity, consults, educates and provides value added advice on implementation decisions, approaches, and tactics added recommendations on how to ensure timely adoption of regulatory initiatives, including support to key stakeholders on meeting regulatory change in force dates and mitigating risks
- Convene diverse stakeholders to align on key positions and author comment letters for regulatory consultations.
Execution Excellence, Creating Value and Measuring Success
- Lead the Canadian Regulatory Change team through the monitoring of regulatory developments (including regulatory enforcement actions), leveraging unique subject matter expertise, determine the relevance of regulatory changes, accountabilities, impact on Canadian Business Segments and other 2LOD and 1LOD stakeholders.
- Support Regulatory Strategy Committee and coordinate with peers on regulatory change processes, governance, strategy and cross-regional regulatory change.
- Develop a diverse team of high performing Compliance Professional through effective coaching, mentoring and people leadership routines.
What do you need to succeed?
- Law degree/Professional Designation or MBA
- Impact, influence maturity and experience working with a diverse group of stakeholders, and demonstrate strong collaboration skills across the organization
- Experience in interpreting, advising and applying legal, regulatory and/or policy requirements
- Experience leading or shaping large transformational efforts
- Experience with change management, experience with agile ways of working (ie. prioritization, backlog mgmt, test n’ learns)
- Excellent written and verbal communication and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze and summarize consultation documents
- Ability to draw connections between regulatory change requirements and business imperative, recognizing oncoming impediments and support partners to clear the path proactively
- Ability to both grasp big picture and have rigorous attention to detail
