About the role
KalSoft is currently looking for a Senior Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer to come and join our team.
The ideal candidate will be based in Canada and bring minimum 8+ years of overall data engineering experience, with strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, and modern analytics tools. This role will focus on developing scalable data pipelines, integrating complex data sources, optimizing data models, and enabling high-quality analytics and reporting solutions.
Responsibilities:
Data Engineering & Architecture
- Design and implement end-to-end data solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Data Engineering, and related cloud services
- Architect and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and storage processes for enterprise analytics
- Develop robust data models, semantic layers, and curated datasets for Power BI and Fabric workloads
Data Integration & Processing
- Integrate data from Azure Data Lake, SQL Server, APIs, SaaS systems, and on-premise sources
- Build reusable ETL/ELT pipelines and automated dataflows
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency through validation, cleansing, and governance standards
Analytics & Reporting Enablement
- Prepare optimized datasets for Power BI reporting and self-service analytics
- Develop advanced DAX models, measures, and KPIs in collaboration with analytics teams
- Support business stakeholders by translating requirements into scalable technical data solutions
Performance Optimization & Operations
- Monitor and tune pipeline performance, capacity usage, and refresh cycles
- Troubleshoot data failures, performance bottlenecks, and reliability issues
- Implement best practices for data security, access control, and compliance within Microsoft Cloud environments
Documentation & Collaboration
- Prepare architecture documentation, data dictionaries, and operational runbooks
- Work closely with data analysts, business teams, and technical stakeholders on high-impact data initiatives
- Provide mentorship, knowledge transfer, and guidance on data engineering best practices
Skills & Experience Required:
- Canadian residents may apply only
- Min 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform development, or cloud data architecture
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Dataflows, and Azure SQL
- Strong SQL skills and hands-on ETL/ELT development experience
- Experience preparing Power BI datasets, semantic models, and optimized data structures
- Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance within Microsoft 365/Azure ecosystems
- Experience integrating data from diverse cloud and on-premise sources
At least one of the following Microsoft certifications is required:
- Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate
