Finning is seeking an experienced Bid Specialist to develop detailed cost estimates and proposals for standby and prime power projects. This role blends technical expertise with strategic thinking, requiring collaboration across internal teams and external partners to deliver accurate, timely, and competitive solutions.

For this position, the expected salary range is between $75,000 and $85,000 annually. This range reflects our commitment to providing competitive compensation that aligns with industry standards and your qualifications. We also offer additional incentives such as an annual bonus and premium for certain shifts.

Job Description:
- Review customer and consultant specifications, including electrical single-line diagrams, P&IDs, and layout drawings.
- Develop accurate quotes and pricing, identifying and mitigating risks related to generator supply and commissioning.
- Provide technical support to the sales team during bid evaluations and order acceptance.
- Create and maintain standard templates, drawings, and estimation processes.
- Identify and develop supplier relationships to source cost-effective and technically sound components.
- Monitor project design and construction phases to ensure functionality, safety, and engineering integrity.
- Participate in post-project reviews to assess pricing accuracy, design quality, and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with engineering firms to design custom power solutions using diesel, gas, solar, and BESS systems.
- Represent Finning professionally in customer interactions and contract negotiations.
- Mentor and support application engineers, inside sales representatives, and retail sales teams.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, power systems, or a related technical field is an asset.
- 3–5 years of experience in estimating or technical sales within the power generation or electrical contracting industry.
- Proven experience with diesel generator systems, including sizing, configuration, and application.
- Strong understanding of load calculations, fuel systems, transfer switches, and control systems.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Excellent communication and networking skills with the ability to influence and present effectively.
- Strong analytical and financial aptitude with the ability to assess cost options for complex solutions.
- Ability to identify risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Additional certifications in project estimation, power generation systems, or diesel technologies are an asset.
Note:
- This position is based out of our Power Systems location in Surrey.
- This position will also consider applicants based out of Edmonton or Calgary.
- Permanent, full-time role.
- Monday – Friday, 5 x 2 schedule.
