Drilling Performance Data Analyst
Job Description
General Statement of Duties:
Under the direction of the General Manager and working closely with the Savanna Operations and Sales team, the Drilling Performance Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing rig and operational performance data to support drilling optimization, operational efficiency and assist HSE with reporting requirement. This position provides accurate, timely and actionable reporting to drive operational performance improvements.
Supervision Received:
The Drilling Performance Data Analyst reports to the General Manager, and other management from time to time.
Summary of Duties (Duties may include, but are not limited to the following):
- Collect, analyze, and interpret drilling operations and rig performance data from internal systems and field sources.
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards and KPIs to support operational decision-making.
- Provide accurate, timely reporting for HSE, regulatory, and management requirements.
- Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for drilling optimization and performance improvement.
- Collaborate with Operations and Sales leadership to forecast rig performance, resource utilization, and efficiency targets.
- Support the development of automated reporting tools, data pipelines, and visualization dashboards.
- Prepare presentations and reports for leadership, highlighting key findings, cost drivers, and optimization opportunities.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of operational data through quality control and validation processes.
- Liaise with IT, Operations, and HSE teams to improve data collection, consistency, and accessibility.
- Contribute to special projects, and initiatives focused on continuous improvement in drilling operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Technical:
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret drilling performance data and identify trends.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical data into clear insights for non-technical audiences.
- Ability to present findings confidently and concisely to management, operations, and clients.
- Effective listening and follow-up skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive performance data with discretion and professionalism.
Organizational:
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple reporting tasks, deadlines, and priorities.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing positively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Education and Experience:
- Degree or diploma in Data Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in data analysis or performance reporting role
- Experience in drilling, oilfield services or energy industry data analysis preferred
- Advanced experience with core Microsoft data visualization and reporting tools including Excel, Power Bi and SQL/data querying.
Special Conditions:
- This role is primarily office-based at Savanna’s Calgary head office.
- Minimal travel may occasionally be required for training, meetings, or collaboration with field or operations teams.
- Must comply with all company policies and confidentiality requirements when handling operational and performance data.
