The Supervisor of Dietary is responsible for supporting the day to day operations of the dietary department, including liaising with the clinical units on a regular basis. The Supervisor provides leadership, guidance and support to a multi-functional team to ensure a high level of quality and timely service is delivered to all patients and customers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two (2) year Diploma in Food Services, Nutrition Management, or equivalent education
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements
  • Three (3) years of relevant and related experience
  • Current experience working in a healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of production and delivery of nutritional service in a healthcare facility
  • Demonstrated experience with infection control cleaning, teaching and monitoring in a kitchen environment
  • Experience in Lean management
  • Experience with leading groups through improvement processes
  • Demonstrated ability to understand clinical, operational, financial, and political issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills– including strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and team build
  • Demonstrated computer skills in windows applications and word processing
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures safety and infection control programs and standards are being met
  • Ensures that standards are being met with regards to all health, safety and quality programs, processes and policies.
  • Maintains open, collaborative lines of communication with colleagues and staff pertaining to Dietary
  • Ensures direct reports receive information pertinent to their roles in a timely and effective manner
  • Ensures that staff are scheduled in accordance with the Collective Agreement
  • Participates in recruitment process
  • Trains, develops, coaches and motivates staff
  • Develops and promotes team work amongst the staff
  • Conducts staff performance reviews
  • Liaises with stakeholders in other departments to achieve desired outcomes
  • Ensures that service standards are being met
  • Remains current with industry practices and advances in dietary services
  • Demonstrates ability to lead a team in a hospital or similar setting
  • Recognizes and celebrates excellent work performance at Lean Huddles
  • Coaches team members in the use of the Lean Management approach to quality improvement
  • Manages progressive discipline in conjunction with HR
  • Supports the Hospital’s Attendance Management Program
  • Regularly monitors supplies required
  • Maintains inventory of items necessary for daily operations
  • Adheres to Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities under Section 25/26 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act including:
    • Advises a worker of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of the worker of which the supervisor is aware.
    • Where so prescribed, provides a worker with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of the worker
    • Takes every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of the worker
  • Performs workplace inspections and investigations, remedies issues, and provides training/information to workers
  • Monitors health and safety performance of workers and corrects/commends actions
  • Promotes a culture of safety which encourages prevention, reduces errors and safeguards patients from harm
  • Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement
