Job Summary
The Infant Hearing Program of Eastern-Ontario provides universal hearing screening to newborns and infants to help identify those who may have been born Deaf, hard of hearing or at risk of developing hearing loss in early childhood.
As an Infant Hearing Screener, you will provide community-based screening services, support client monitoring and follow-up, and contribute to early intervention efforts that make a lasting difference for families.
Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided to support your success in this specialised role.
We are recruiting for two full-time positions.
- One position will primarily host clinics in the Central-to-West ends of Ottawa.
- One position will primarily host clinics in the Central-to East ends of Ottawa.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct newborn hearing screening using Automated Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (ADPOAE) and Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR)
- Follow established protocols and maintain hearing screening performance standards set by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS).
- Adhere to professional standards and expectations, respecting professional boundaries and scope of practice, routing families to appropriate resource, where required.
- Explain procedures, obtain informed consent, and share screening results with parents in a clear, sensitive, and professional manner.
- Build rapport with families and respond to questions with patience and clarity.
- Maintain accurate documentation, electronic records, and referrals.
- Organize and manage clinic space, equipment and materials.
- Work closely with community partners to foster positive collaboration.
- Participate in team meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and staff mentoring.
- Perform related administrative duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/French) with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort and experience working with infants and families.
- Ability to communicate with sensitivity to people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a mature, patient, and professional approach.
- Aptitude for learning and following infant hearing screening protocols and equipment (training provided).
- Strong organizational skills, time management and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, problem-solve effectively, and adapt to change with resilience.
- Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license (travel and occasional short-notice location changes required).
- Physical and mental ability to perform repetitive tasks (standing for long periods, occasional carrying/lifting of car seats).
Preferred:
- Communicative Disorders Assistant certificate or post-graduate program in hearing health (e.g. Hearing Aid Technician).
- Post-secondary education in health, early childhood education, human services, rehabilitation or related fields (or equivalent experience).
- Experience using Caredove or other referral management systems.

Founded by community members in 1979, we are one of about 60 non-profit community health centers across Ontario. We are run by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of 12 community members elected at our annual meeting.
Growing With Our Community:
In 1979 we opened our doors with 4 staff. Today, we have over 347 full and part time employees serving our local community and over 400 volunteers.
