Position: Casual and Part Time Community Support Worker

Location: Various Kingston, Gananoque, and Napanee Community Settings

Dates of Vacancy: Flexible

Hours of Work Casual: No Minimum Guarantee

Hours of Work Part time: Guaranteed a minimum of 24 hours per pay period (biweekly)(open availability required)

Wage: Hourly: Start – $25.97 6 Months – $26.30 One Year- $26.73

Position

The Community Support Worker provides services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities in various locations, as part of a team, under the direction of a residential staff to ensure an optimum living environment.

Duties

Assists in direct care of and in maintaining a healthy, safe living environment for Persons Served; Assisting in the provision of personal care i.e., bathing, dressing, feeding, brushing of teeth, toileting, etc.; Participating with and supporting in areas such as cooking, (following direction of dietitian and Canada food guide), housecleaning, laundry, making beds, and outside duties as required; Operating Ongwanada vehicles for transportation to and from various sites and activities, as required.

Participating in client-focused leisure and recreational activities and events

Provide 1-1 support as required under direction of person in charge/supervisor; Other Duties as directed.

Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge Required

– Certification as a Health care Aide or related experience

– Current certificates in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid

– A valid class G driving license with full driving privilege, and successful completion of an Ongwanada recognized Defensive Driving Course

– Excellent interpersonal skills, good oral and written communication skills, and sound judgment

– Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities would be an asset

– Ability to meet the physical demands of the job and to work shifts

Ongwanada has been a member of the community since 1948 and has been working in developmental services since 1967. A non-profit, accredited organization, Ongwanada supports people with developmental disabilities, with a special focus on those with complex needs, and their families, so they can lead full lives, effectively supported in their communities.

The organization offers a wide range of individualized services and community supports to hundreds of people with developmental disabilities and their families in Kingston and Eastern Ontario. Our funding comes primarily from the Ministry of Community and Social Services and we are managed by a volunteer Board of Governors.

Our programs and services are delivered at three main sites in Kingston, more than 20 community residences as well as other homes, including the Southeastern Regional Transitional Treatment home and a home specifically designed for those with complex needs. In addition to residential options, additional services include, but are not limited to: Planning and Case Management, Clinical Services, Respite, Community Behavioural Services, Adult Protective Services, and Community Participation Supports.

We also maintain strong partnerships with Queen's University and collaborate internationally in research to enhance the understanding and improve the quality of life of individuals with developmental disabilities.
