The Role Under the general direction of the Manager of Information Technology, the IT Security Architect is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the City’s cybersecurity framework to ensure the protection of municipal systems, networks, and data. The position leads the identification and mitigation of cybersecurity risks, conducts vulnerability assessments, and ensures compliance with applicable privacy legislation, security standards, and industry best practices.
This role supports the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the City’s information systems while helping to safeguard municipal operations and public data.
Qualifications
Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline
Minimum five (5) years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, or IT infrastructure security
Professional security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA are considered an asset
Knowledge of municipal operations and privacy legislation, including MFIPPA, is considered an asset
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
The Candidate
The successful candidate should possess the following experience, knowledge and competencies:
Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining cybersecurity architecture, policies, standards, and secure system designs in a complex enterprise or municipal environment.
Proven ability to conduct vulnerability assessments, risk analyses, and security audits, and lead mitigation efforts across infrastructure, applications, and cloud platforms.
Strong competency in incident response coordination, including developing procedures, leading containment and recovery activities, and delivering post‑incident analysis.
Effective communicator and collaborator with the ability to provide technical guidance, build cybersecurity awareness across the organization, and advise leadership on risk and cost‑effective security strategies.
