About the role

What is the Opportunity?

The RBC Bank Controls Testing and Monitoring team within the Chief Controls Office is responsible for the internal controls testing program for the 1st Line of Defense (1LoD) business units. The team is responsible for the strategy, planning and execution of controls testing on behalf of business units across all RBC Bank, with input from the Business Control Officers (BCOs) for the respective units in accordance with Enterprise, CUSO and RBC Bank frameworks, standards, policies and procedures.

What will you do?

The Manager, Controls Testing and Monitoring effectively executes design and operating effectiveness testing over technology, data management/governance and other operational controls deemed appropriate to mitigate key risks of the unit. This role also includes developing test steps and documenting the results of the testing, escalating concerns to business management as well as the Senior Manager, Controls Testing and Director, Controls Testing and Monitoring. As part of the overall controls testing lifecycle, the Manager, Controls Testing and Monitoring identifies control gaps and determines its underlying root causes with the support of the business unit. This role also includes tracking action plans and executing remediation testing to address deficiencies.

Works collaboratively to review new controls and procedures, to support their successful implementation within areas of control responsibility. Works to ensure management reporting and automation is utilized to its fullest extent and makes recommendations for control changes as processes automate. Supports documentation gathering and reviews with internal and stakeholders, including but not limited to 2nd Line of Defense (2LoD), Internal Audit, OCC, FRB, etc. Collaborates with BCOs and business partners providing testing documentation when requested, and respond to issues and concerns.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Proficiency and experience in the financial services industry working with controls testing.
  • Ability to lead a team and create an inclusive environment with internal business partners.
  • Flexible mindset, with the ability to learn quickly and leverage skills in a dynamically changing environment.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, negotiation, verbal & written communication skills to deal with senior executives
  • Strong presentation skills and technologically self-sufficient in MS Office Suite (i.e. Access, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with a keen attention to detail. Accurately defines problems and identifies relevant factors while objectively considering alternatives and anticipating the client impact of possible solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management
  • Proficiency and experience working with various RBC Bank systems/applications
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and motivation
