Business Unit Overview 8th Avenue Food & Provisions is a growing organization made up of businesses that produce and sell quality products including pasta, peanut butter, granola, and fruit and nut trail mixes to retail, foodservice and ingredient customers. The company was formed in October 2018 through a combination of Post Holdings’ private brands businesses and is owned by Post Holdings and funds affiliated with Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. (“THL”), a private equity firm.

Responsibilities 8th Avenue Food & Provisions is a leading manufacturer of private brand and branded food products. We supply organic and conventional products in four major categories Nut Butters, Pasta, Granola and Fruit & Nuts. We are a small plant with a big heart with a warm, friendly and positive work environment. We make the best peanut butter by roasting and grinding peanuts combined with other raw ingredients that flow to a 1 fully automated line consisting of a filler, capper, labeler and pallet wrapper, and then shipped out all over the world! Location 30 Citizen Court Drive, Markham Shift: Training on Day shift M-F 6am-2pm for 2-3 months then moving to Permanent Night shift M-F 10pm-6am - plus weekend overtime work Pay rate is $58,000 to $60,000 per year (depending on experience) plust 15 days Paid Time Off, plus 6% annual bonus. Position Summary: The Production Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the production lines on the plant floor. The Production Supervisor is responsible for monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback to line employees when needed. The Production Supervisor will train, mentor and coach line employees on a regular basis and as such, must be familiar with the workflow on the lines, make sure employees understand their duties, and delegate tasks on a daily basis to achieve company’s goals. The Production Supervisor is also responsible for communicating and reinforcing safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and maintaining open dialogue between the maintenance, food safety and quality assurance (QA) and management team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the production team to attain efficiencies, objectives, production goals, housekeeping and continuous improvement tasks in a safe and timely manner with strict adherence to food quality and safety.
  • Communicate with supervisors of next and previous shift on safety, quality, and production issues and work in a team environment to resolve.
  • Communicate expectations to the team and monitor frequently throughout the shift.
  • Ensure changeovers and downtime are minimized with issues addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure plant safety and food safety procedures are followed (e.g. Lock out Tag Out and allergen segregation, documentation).
  • Ensure work orders have been distributed, materials checked for availability and production executed in sequence.
  • Make sure daily line reports collected and entered in the shift reports are accurate.
  • Utilize JDE functions needed for the supervisory role.
  • Keep track and approve employees’ hours in Kronos on a daily basis.
  • Manage and train agency temp workers as required
  • Following Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Enusre disciplinary procedures are followed
  • Ensure production schedule is followed thoroughly; deviations are discussed with scheduler.
  • Provide guidance, training and coaching for new and current employees.
  • Make sure safety checks are performed and the production lines start on time daily.
  • With the help of Lead hands, make sure all employees follow the GMP and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the production area is tidy and organized at all times.
  • Report any non-conformance to the leadership team and suggest corrective actions accordingly.
  • Use of Redzone as required
  • Develop performance goals collaboratively with the leadership team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Required:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+years supervisor's experience in a unionized environment
  • 2+ years of experience working in food manufacturing
  • 1+ years of experience in leading production/warehouse teams
  • 1+ years of experience utilizing Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Preference given to those with University degree.
  • Good communication skills with English language, reading, writing and able to give out instructions clearly
  • Ability to multi-task, stay organized and problem solve
  • Mathematical skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and be fluent in American weights and measurements.
  • Able to work weekends and cover other shifts
  • Good team skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting with all departments.
  • Supervisory experience within a manufacturing industry
  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Health and Safety required
  • First Aid Training is Preferred
  • Fire Extinguisher Training is Preferred

Physical Requirements: Qualified candidates must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Able to work in hot environment
  • Ability to lift, if required, up to 50 Lbs. infrequently
  • Required to walk around frequently (80% on the floor - 20% in the office)
