Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Manager of Facility Operations and Maintenance is currently seeking a dedicated Temporary Part-Time Winter Maintenance Worker. The purpose of the position is to perform winter maintenance of all regional roads, walkways and building entrances.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Operate small lawn tractor/snow removal equipment, and pickup truck with sander/salt on all roadways and parking lots.
  • With hand shovels and/or snow blower, remove snow from all walkways and building entrances/exits.
  • Erects snow fences where/when required.
  • Apply sand/salt and de-icing aggregate to entrances and walk ways.
  • Almost all work is performed outdoors. Scheduling work activities is very often determined by weather conditions.
  • During inclement winter weather, incumbents are required to work varied hours and shifts as snow removal is a priority.
  • Circle check of all equipment including checking all fluid levels, pressures equipment on power equipment.
  • Completes routine preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments equipment such as checking tires, radiators, air breathers, chains, belts, etc.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • A valid Ontario G Driver’s License to operate pickup truck equipped with sand/salt. Note:
  • member may be asked to operate snow removal equipment is required.
  • Knowledge & experience in safe operation of landscaping equipment such as tractors, riding mower, and snow blowers and of routine maintenance requirements of motorized equipment
  • Knowledge and experience in property management
  • Safe operation of all motorized equipment ie: Safe driving courses, clean abstract, driving awards.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to complete reports, interact with customers, supply lists necessary for tasks, e-mail etc. Takes routine direction from supervisor.
  • Interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with others. Significant portion of work is done independently.
  • Physical coordination and dexterity when using tools in order to perform service work, such as the ability to lift 60lb, working from ladders, and exposure to extreme temperature (hot and cold), sometimes for prolonged periods.
  • Basic computer skills i.e Email
  • Ability to follow established procedures and routines. Most work in landscaping, gardening and general grounds maintenance is within established procedures and routines. Work is reviewed for completeness and quality.
  • Job requires referring situations not covered by established methods and procedures to the supervisor.

  • During inclement winter weather, workers are required to work varied hours and shifts, as snow removal is a priority.
