Education & Expertise
- Post-secondary education and/or experience relating to rock climbing
- Additional certifications or workshops relating to customer service are an asset
- All team members must provide a recent Criminal Background Check prior to commencement of training and/or work.
Certifications
Being in the fitness industry, it is not uncommon to witness injuries or emergency situations that require first aid. In the event of an injury, it is important that we provide the member with first aid followed by documenting the incident on an accident report.
Certain team members are required to maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications as part of their job specific certification.

Duties & Responsibilities

OVERVIEW
- Maintain Auto-belays: removal, installation, inspection
- Connector swaps as required
- Ensure safety regulations are fulfilled
- Re-route the climbing walls quarterly
- Wall maintenance as needed
- Assist with planning and executing climbing workshops/seminars
- Instruct Youth Program Associates
- Teaching customers to properly tie knots
- Introducing climbing safety to new climbers, including spotting safety
- Evaluating experienced climbers on proper climbing techniques
- Plan and carry out age-appropriate activities and experiences for the climbers in your care
- Deliver full range of activity experiences offered by Altea
- Engage with all centre users in a friendly, enthusiastic, and professional manner
- Maintain efficiency with time and resources as possible whilst maintaining high standard of customer engagement.
- Set reasonable behaviour expectations consistent with center’s philosophy and policies
- Maintain a knowledge and understanding of the services offered by Altea Active
CREATING A SAFE ENVIRONMENT
- Ensuring safety of both staff and customers within the facility
- Organize and clean the space, equipment, and materials before/after activities
- Report all accidents, injuries and illnesses to the manager or delegate and record such incidents in the daily logbook and as a serious occurrence if necessary
- Monitor the environment for hazards
- Release children only to authorized persons
Exceptional Parent/Member Experience
- Enable parents to have a comfortable and secure feeling while leaving their child in the climbing area
- Ensure positive communication with parents
- Discuss the programs daily events and the child’s daily progress with parents
- Accommodate the parent’s instructions for daily routines, when possible, within group routines
TEAM SYNERGY
- Be punctual with schedule and arrive to work ready and on time
- Educate yourself on recent team communications (memos, emails, etc.)
- Attend all departmental and staff meetings
- Carry out the responsibilities assigned to you
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the centre’s children, their parents, and staff
Schedule
This is a casual position with no set schedule and no guarantee of hours week to week. Altea Active will contact you by email/telephone when you are needed for work.

Compensation & Benefits
- Climbing Techs are compensated an hourly rate based on experience.
- All rates of pay are to remain confidential
- All team members are paid bi-weekly by direct deposit into a bank account (void cheque or direct deposit information required).
- After one year of consecutive employment full time team members are eligible to apply for other benefits including a group health benefit program.
Reports & Supports
You will report directly to the Club Co-General Managers and will attend regular meetings to review success planning in order to ensure daily, weekly and monthly targets are met.
You will work both independently and cohesively amongst your peers and team members. You’ll confer with all departments to create an exceptional member experience.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Work conditions and physical requirements of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Working in a state-of-the-art fitness facility
- Combination of office setting and interacting with members of the public
- Moderate noise (music, phones, conversation)
- Combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout shift
- Ability to interact with team members and members of the public verbally and in writing.
- Ability to use the telephone, computer, printer, CRM database and any other facility software programs
What We're Looking For:
- Available for a mix of early morning, daytime, evening, and weekend shifts
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C, maintained annually
- Criminal Background Check required prior to commencement
