Join the City of Maple Ridge as an Electrical Inspector 1 and play a key role in ensuring the safety and compliance of electrical systems within our community! In this technical and regulatory position, you’ll be responsible for inspecting electrical systems, repairs, and alterations to ensure they meet all applicable codes, bylaws, regulations, and municipal standards. You’ll also review plans and specifications, offering valuable technical guidance and assistance to homeowners, contractors, engineers, and municipal staff.
This role requires a strong ability to exercise independent judgment and tact when interpreting and enforcing regulations. You will work closely with leadership on policy matters and complex issues, ensuring that all inspections align with established practices and policies. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of construction practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical system installations.

Thorough knowledge of the bylaws, acts, codes, standards and regulations related to electrical construction works.

Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, related material, recognize technical requirements and suggest changes and corrections as required.

Ability to deal effectively with owners, contractors, tradesmen, engineers, architects and others and to enforce all regulations, bylaws and ordinances tactfully and firmly with sound judgement.

Ability to recognize faulty or sub-standard electrical installations and suggest corrections or changes required.

Experience in dealing with electrical power diversions and related electrical safety regulations and municipal bylaws or initiatives.

Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and perform clerical duties as required. Ability to prepare and present evidence in Court.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduation and considerable experience in the electrical trades at a journeyman level.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

B.C. Safety Authority Certified Electrical Safety Officer status.

Class 5 driver’s license valid in the Province of British Columbia.

Eligible to be designated by the BC Safety Authority as an Electrical safety Officer.
HOURS OF WORK
This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing regular schedule of hours.
