About the role

Manulife’s Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) businesses operate globally across the US, Canada, and Asia, encompassing Retail, Retirement, and Institutional sectors. A key strategic goal is to integrate these global WAM businesses.

The WAM Accounting & Reporting team manages ledger close processes and financial reporting for Manulife's Legal Entity Reporting (LER) subsidiaries, focusing on controllership for various entities. Reporting to the Director, the role involves analyzing financial statements, preparing board reports, meeting regulatory requirements, and supporting external audits. Additionally, the incumbent will play a crucial role in automating financial statements to enhance reporting efficiencies.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review and oversee the preparation of financial statements and disclosures for a number of subsidiaries and lead special projects and align with monthly/quarterly reporting requirements

  • Provide prompt and accurate service to setup and evaluate the financial reporting implications of new products and initiatives

  • Revenue for Private Markets

    • Review/approve wire requests for routine and non-routine intercompany payments and third-party transactions
    • Review and prepare journal entries from Partner Capital Account Statements (PCAPs) for private market general partners and limited partners, including Comvest
    • Implement controls and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Carried Interest

    • Maintain the centralized process for all inputs and outputs of carried interest revenue and its associated compensation expense for all private market asset classes
    • Liaise with individual private market asset teams to understand and incorporate waterfall calculation requirements into new processes
    • On an ongoing basis, conduct review of compliance of carried interest waterfall calculations in accordance with the provisions of the respective LPA and GP Agreements and perform testing of carried interest payouts with underlying calculations on an annual basis or as required
  • Work independently or with management to identify complex operational business issues

  • Develop solutions to automate existing manual processes within Global WAM

  • Prepare/Review memos and supporting documentation for accounting policy changes and dividend projections and communicate to all collaborators

  • Develop junior team members through close mentoring and appropriate delegation of work to expand knowledge and capabilities

Required Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Business or equivalent and CPA designation
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial services and/or consulting firm with experience in the public and private investment management industry reporting would be an asset
  • Highly organized and capable of meeting tight deadlines, balancing multiple tasks, and adapting to last-minute changes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex problems and provide practical solutions
  • Energetic and proactive, thriving in fast-paced and challenging environments, with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office tools, including Power BI, Word, and PowerPoint, for developing reports and presentations
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Versed in IFRS and US GAAP
  • Experience with financial reporting tools such as Infor/Lawson, Oracle Smart View, accounting units (1Stop, 1Exp, EPO, 1KFM) and cost centers a strong plus

Salary range is expected to be between

$86,250.00 CAD - $155,250.00 CAD
