Senior Manager, Business Risk, RBC Wealth Management
About the role
**What is the opportunity? **
The Senior Manager, Business Risk, provides support to RBC Wealth Management (WM) Canada’s and RBC Global Asset Management’s (GAM) Operational Risk management leadership, by providing expertise, advice and counsel, enhancing management’s ability to anticipate and manage operational risks effectively. This includes supporting the design and execution of essential Operational Risk and Regulatory Compliance programs in WM Canada and GAM including risk and control identification/assessment, leading risk reporting and assessments, and supporting on other strategic/innovation initiatives.
Reporting to the Director, WM Business Risk, the Senior Manager, Business Risk will lead operational risk/regulatory compliance reviews and provide expert feedback on the operational risk impact of major change initiatives, process improvements, and transformational projects. The successful candidate will maintain critical linkages with Centres of Governance, 2LoD Operational Risk (GRM OR), Compliance, and other critical areas of dependency for WM Canada and GAM to facilitate the exchange of information and integrated solutions to operational risk issues.
What will you do?
- Execute Risk & Control Assessments (RCSAs), including working with stakeholders to develop action plans where risks are outside of risk appetite.
- Act as Line of Business Head Delegate to support controls, including control assessments and annual attestations to assist lines of businesses in meeting their ongoing Internal Controls Management Policy (ICMP) and Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) obligations. Drive innovation in control design and control testing methods, working with control owners to leverage automation and data to modernize controls testing. Manage the rolling 12-month plan to ensure annual assessments are performed on time.
- Perform Operational Risk program elements including but not limited to: operational risk event/error reviews, review/sign off on all integrated risk profile assessments on change initiatives, perform Risk Appetite and Key Risk Indicator refresh and reporting processes, perform Targeted Reviews and Root Cause Analyses through planning/execution/reporting, RPA Risk Assessments, manage/identify issues and related mitigation/follow-up, etc.
- Responsible for performing management-requested reviews, innovation/change projects, and ad-hoc reporting for senior executives and management team within WM Canada and GAM, enabling strategic decision making.
- Manage critical evidence, archives and reference material – minutes, operating procedures, guidance documents, and supporting evidence for Operational Risk and Regulatory Compliance programs.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
- Professional designation in Risk and/or Finance such as an MBA, CPA, CFA.
- 5-8 years of combined knowledge, skill, and background in Operational Risk practices, Audit, or Compliance functions.
- University Degree and recognized Industry Qualifications – Industry Securities / Options / Futures/Investment Management or equivalent courses.
- Strong problem solving, analytical (including qualitative and quantitative analysis) and research skills are essential as well as advanced desktop skills (e.g. excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to deal effectively with senior management and multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication and writing skills with the ability to present information effectively.
- Consulting mindset with focus on making strategically aligned business recommendations.
Nice to Have
- Excellent knowledge of Wealth Management and RBC’s products, processes, and organization.
- Strong knowledge of Asset Management and related front-office and back-office activities.
- Strong knowledge of wealth advisory, investment management, and financial planning front-office and back-office activities.
- Experience in securities operations within one or more businesses in WM or comparable businesses. Experience supporting Canadian investment dealers, trading, and or/asset management.
- Familiarity with Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) rules and requirements.
