You as a Design Manager (Building Group) will:
- Lead the Design team, on behalf of the Construction team, to achieve overall project schedule and budget
- Lead discussions on design progress, design schedule, and design compliance with the construction team
- Lead the Design team in developing compliant, efficient, and constructable design solutions
- Be the point of contact for the client for all design-related issues and discussions
- Manage the development of design proposals for design-build style project pursuits
- Oversee design coordination processes, ensuring design team cohesion and collaboration
- Analyze project requirements, guiding the design team to meet them, while maintaining budgetary requirements
- Lead the development of winning design strategies and efficient design management processes
- Develop processes for design submissions and stakeholder engagement presentations in conjunction with the design team
- Lead discussions on change management within the Design process
- Coordinate the Design team and Design documentation to support the estimating team and the procurement team
- Manage project design schedule to ensure coordination with project logistics plans and sequence of construction
- Manage consultant contracts and scopes of work based on requirements and proposed design
- Maintain colalborative working relationships with partner consultants and trade contractors
- Understand and manage a Statement of Requirements / Project Agreement to ensure design compliance and contractual protocol adherance
- Work with the estimating and procurement team to ensure adequate design assumptions are managed and contained within project budgets
- Manage the development and submission of Development Permits and Building Permits with the local AHJ
- Manage the development and submission of other technical permit applications such as NavCan, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, Transport Canada, etc. depending on the project's specific design requirements
Is this the right role for you?
- You have an architectural, engineering, or construction related degree and seven to ten years of Design Management experience
- You have a working knowledge of construction scopes and activities, scheduling, project management, and contract software
- Experience in estimating and project management would be seen as an asset
- You have the ability to confidently mentor and delegate to a large team while developing and maintaining strong client relations
