Engineer, SCADA
About the role
SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Engineer, SCADA provides engineering services to support safe, reliable, and secure remote operation of the SaskEnergy/TransGas pipeline system. The Engineer supports the implementation of highly technical software, computer infrastructure, communications, and cyber security facilities of the pipeline system.
Position Details
- Non-union. This position is permanent full time.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage assigned projects involving review of engineering design, developing plans, and executing the commissioning of facilities or SCADA system improvements.
- Development and maintenance of SCADA databases, HMIs, and additional applications including, but not limited to, alarm management, display management, gas accounting and gas supply systems.
- Provide technical support in the investigation, analysis and resolution of SCADA systems, SQL Database, Gas Measurement accounting system or communication problems.
- Provide on-call support for the SCADA system.
- Identify opportunities, challenge current practices, and provide advice for SCADA maintenance, procedures, and support strategies to ensure alignment with industry trends and best practices.
- Participate in the development and delivery of information provided for facilitating change management of operational and cyber-security SCADA improvements.
- Prepare, review, approve software and business reports, evaluating and implementing new operational technology to provide cost optimization while meeting business and legislated requirements.
- Develop and/or deliver technical training for SCADA operators and technical support personnel.
- Oversee contract staff providing instruction and guidance.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Computer or Software Systems is preferred. Industrial and other may be considered), or a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
- Professional Engineer Designation registered to practice in Saskatchewan.
- Five (5) years of progressive experience related to OT systems in the oil and gas industry, including working knowledge of industry standard SCADA equipment and protocols.
- Demonstrated competency in software, computer, and communications.
- Demonstrated competency in troubleshooting and complex problem solving.
- Working knowledge of SCADA best practices, standards, operating procedures, Visual Basic, and SQL would be considered an asset.
- Ability to work on a team while building and maintaining effective relationships.
- Must have a continuing record of professional development and continuous learning.
An Engineer-in-training (new graduates or those with less than five years' experience) may also be considered as a path to advance to a Professional Engineer. A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
Additional Information
- Position is subject to an on-call rotation.
- Travel, including overnight stays away from headquarters, is required on occasion.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s license is required.
- The job is safety sensitive, and as such, is subject to the provisions of the Drug and Alcohol Policy (Pre-Employment or Pre-Placement for Safety Sensitive Positions).
