The Campus Saint-Jean at the University of Alberta invites applications for a part-time teaching professor position in education to teach at the undergraduate level in education for satellite programs. Teaching will be delivered in a co-modal format from the Calgary campus and for distance students, or entirely online depending on program needs.
The ideal candidate will have a generalist profile, with, ideally, a specialization in literacy and/or school inclusion (diversity and equity, Indigenous education, learning disabilities). Their knowledge of the minority Francophone context and French immersion, as well as their experience in the school environment, will enable them to teach introductory courses in teaching (planning, assessment, design of educational materials related to the curriculum), classroom management courses, foundation of learning courses, and courses on educational contexts and professional ethics.

Under the authority of the Senior Associate Dean, the person selected for this position will have the following tasks:
- Provide instruction to undergraduate and graduate students
- Develop the content of assigned courses and be responsible for the design of these courses, including teaching methodology
- Ensure reasonable availability for student consultation during and outside of class hours
- Contribute to the content of new student orientation activities
- Participate in scholarly teaching by staying current and competent in course content and design and instructor performance
- Engage in administrative tasks related to teaching
- Attend orientations, faculty meetings, course-related meetings, and other teaching-related activities
- Submit the course syllabus to the administration within the prescribed deadlines
- Submit a report to the Senior Associate Dean at the end of the semester
- Other clearly defined teaching activities, as applicable, assigned and agreed upon at the time of appointment or during subsequent annual assignments
- Contribute to the content of new student orientation activities
- Ability to teach the following courses in French:
EDU S 201 (6 credits) - Introduction to Teaching and Orientation Internship
Mondays & Wednesdays 9.30-11.20 a.m., LAB Tuesdays 8.30-12.20 p.m. (Calgary Campus)
- This course includes both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical component includes an introduction to the realities of the school environment and to planning, teaching, and assessment strategies. The practical component consists of an orientation internship during which the student will conduct participatory observation and apply their knowledge in an authentic classroom situation. The student will also understand the importance of continuous learning for their professional development.
EDU M 346 - Literacy in the Second Cycle of Elementary School
Thursdays 5-8 p.m., LAB Wednesdays 9-11 a.m. (Calgary Campus)
- Strengthening literacy skills in upper elementary school students. Students will deepen their knowledge of the processes and strategies related to reading, writing, and speaking. Using the curriculum, they will learn to plan a teaching sequence by implementing appropriate teaching, differentiation, and assessment strategies. Error correction and teaching new grammar in context, as well as the use of digital resources, will also be covered.
EDU P 342 - Assessment of Learning
Fridays 5.00-7.55 p.m. (Calgary Campus)

Study of the foundations of learning assessment in order to develop and analyze different assessment methods to support learning and academic achievement. Students will learn how to plan assessment to support the learning of all students. Emphasis will be placed on the application and development of various measurement instruments in the context of a particular subject related to the curriculum. Writing school reports and disseminating results will be covered.

Preferably possess a Ph.D. in Education, or at least have completed a Master's degree

Significant experience in postsecondary teaching may compensate, subject to evaluation

Demonstrate concrete teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level; an excellent teaching record is required

Have strong pedagogical and technological knowledge for online, in-person, co-modal (in-person and online students), and hybrid (flipped classroom) teaching

Be dedicated to student engagement and success

Demonstrate initiative and leadership

Possess an excellent level of written and spoken French, and a very good level of English to understand agreements, policies, and procedures at the University of Alberta
