About The Role Assist the Aquatics Coordinator and Aquatics Supervisor with the coordination, implementation, organization, and execution of department run programs, services, events and activities including staff management, promotion, administrative duties and risk management.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assist with the overall planning and implementation of recreation programs and services.
  • Ensure overall safety of guests, including accident prevention and treatment of injuries.
  • General administration and staffing responsibilities. Prepare administrative forms and ensure they are provided to each program for appropriate use.
  • Actively market and promote programs through the coordination of flyers, brochures, posters, and handling phone and walk in inquiries about department run programs and services.
  • Provide assistance and leadership in planning, coordinating, promotion and implementation of special events.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of staff.
  • Organize and be on site for public relations events including April Pool’s Day, 500 Metres for 500 Lives and similar events and activities.
  • Assist in the selection, training, supervision, coaching and evaluation of program and aquatic staff. Provide ongoing training and staff development.
  • Complete daily site visits to oversee programs and staff, deliver supplies as needed, pick up administration forms as required.
  • Actively lead staff in daily operations, showcasing enthusiastic leadership, staff, and guest experience focus.
  • Act as a resource person for all staff by providing program ideas, program modifications, take care of participant concerns, handle public relation situations, comment on job performances, program solving and conflict resolution.
  • Act as a mentor for staff to guide actions, instruction recertification, and job responsibilities.
  • Organization of program supplies and equipment for effective use by instructors and program staff.
  • Provide staff with Cash Support at outdoor facilities.
  • Ensure outdoor facilities are supplied and inventory of supplies is maintained.
  • Each week review with Aquatics Coordinator class registration to determine if classes should be canceled or combined and if staff can be reduced. Sunday print and distribute class lists.
  • Assist with the coordination of the City’s AED program.
  • Ensure that all records and reports are kept, maintained, and completed professionally and correctly and handed into Aquatics Coordinator/ Supervisor.
  • Collect and complete inputting of payroll submitting to Aquatics Coordinator and Supervisor for approval. Coordinate day off requests.
  • Communicate daily with Aquatics Coordinator / Supervisor and program staff to target any concerns and to pass on appropriate information. Meet weekly with Aquatics Coordinator/Supervisor to discuss program issues, concerns, and praises.

What's Required:

  • Required Current and Valid Qualifications:

  • Standard First Aid with CPR C, AED certification

  • National Lifesaving Society (NLS) certification

  • Aquatic Supervisory Training

  • Instructor (Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, etc.)

  • Certification in High Five’s Principles for Health Child Development

  • Minimum of Grade 12 Diploma.

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Physical Education, Child Studies or related field and/or have equivalent education and experience is preferred.

  • Experience working in aquatics, particularly in supervisory role.

  • The ability to work in a team environment, liaise with key internal and external stakeholders and to function effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to adapt quickly to applicable software. Experience with CLASS would be considered an asset.

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (Sitting/standing for extended periods of time, climbing ladder, lifting up to 40lbs)

  • Current police clearance with vulnerable sector screening.

  • A valid Class G Ontario driver’s license, with a clean driving record.

  • Must be available evenings, weekends and holiday hours.
