THE OPPORTUNITY As Keyera continues to execute a portfolio of transformational midstream projects totaling over $1 billion in capital investment over the next two years, the Director, Construction will play a pivotal role in safely and efficiently delivering these assets to operation.

This leader will bring deep technical knowledge of construction execution, strong collaboration across functions, and the ability to make smart, timely decisions that drive progress. The ideal candidate is a decisive, relationship-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and can align diverse teams toward shared outcomes.

THE POSITION Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering, the Director, Construction will lead Keyera’s Construction Management team to support the delivery of pipeline and facility projects across the entire portfolio of Keyera projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the construction management team, which includes a broad mix of multi-disciplined professionals—both employees and contingent workers.
  • Be a visible and proactive leader in safety, ensuring construction activities on Keyera projects are executed in a well-planned and safe manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional groups including Project Management, Project Controls, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Quality, Safety, Environment, and Regulatory to ensure functional requirements are fully integrated into construction planning and execution.
  • Actively participate in Front-End Loading (FEL) for projects, ensuring early-stage constructability and execution planning are completed to enable predictable and successful outcomes.
  • Lead the development, negotiation, and administration of construction contracts in collaboration with Supply Chain Management, ensuring terms clearly define scope, responsibilities, risk allocation, and performance expectations.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of construction contracting strategies (e.g., EPC, EPCM, lump-sum, unit rate) that align with project risk profiles and delivery models.
  • Monitor and manage contractor performance throughout execution, driving accountability for safety, quality, schedule, and cost outcomes.
  • Build and maintain effective business relationships with construction contractors and suppliers while upholding the highest standards of ethics and conduct.
  • Drive continuous improvement by developing and executing a construction excellence strategy that enhances safety, quality, schedule, and cost performance.
  • Lead the development and coaching of direct reports, ensuring strong succession planning and talent pipelines within the construction organization.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders at all levels—from the field to the executive boardroom—tailoring messages to audience needs.
  • Provide leadership and decision-making support to progress projects efficiently and resolve issues promptly.

  • Ensure readiness of construction execution plans, resources, and contracting strategies ahead of project sanction.

  • Demonstrate leadership presence and influence to align cross-functional stakeholders and ensure accountability for project outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in pipeline and facilities construction management, planning, and execution.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale ($100MM+) capital projects within the energy, midstream, or industrial infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in construction contracting strategy, development, negotiation, and administration.
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of construction management processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Adaptable and decisive with strong problem-solving skills and a focus on execution excellence.
