What is the opportunity?
We are looking for a Manager, Risk Management to work closely with our partners in T&O - Transformation and Enterprise Operations (TEO) to ensure teams are compliant with internal and external regulatory requirements. You will provide guidance to TEO teams to manage their Operational Risk. You will lead, direct, and oversee operational risk management activities to ensure the risk profile of the business is consistent with strategies, while maintaining an appropriate balance between risk and return. This role is responsible for Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Control Testing and Continuous Monitoring reviews that will drive valuable insights and recommendations to TEO leadership to improve our operating landscape.
You will be reporting to the Senior Manager, Operational Risk within the TEO Ops Strategy and Process Engineering (OPE) team in Toronto. This role is an exciting opportunity to execute on the TEO strategy of Transform, Enable, and Outperform.
What will you do?
- Complete Risk and Control Self-Assessments (in accordance with RBC standards). This includes due diligence activities before and after the assessment (e.g., information gathering such as audit findings, regulatory review findings, control monitoring results as well as the identification and documentation of key control design and operational effectiveness), complete activities according to the assessment plan and schedule.
- Conduct control assessments and testing to support the requirements set out in the RBC Internal Controls Management Standard (ICMS). The focus is to ensure that Key Risks are identified, and that the appropriate Key Controls are also identified and managed, to ensure that they can effectively mitigate any risk exposures.
- Report on monetary and non-monetary Operational Risk Events; create reports for senior management; review and challenge action plans.
- Identify Issues and Action plans as appropriate and in accordance with the ORM Standard (i.e., Operational Risk Events; IT Issue Management Issues KRIs; RCSAs, Control Assessments/testing and Self-Identified Issues).
- Analyze and communicate areas of emerging operational risk; assist in the production of reports/dashboards for senior leaders and executives.
- Review Policy and Procedure documentations, monitor compliance, and recommend advice and solutions relating to RBC Enterprise Policy Management Requirements.
- Complete activities according to the assessment plan/required timelines. Escalate items (i.e., Action item issues) in a timely manner, to allow actions to be taken prior to due dates, to ensure completion dates are met.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
- 5 – 7 years’ experience in Operations
- Transferrable experience in managing compliance and audit requirements
- Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, conflicting priorities, while producing quality results
- Demonstrated collaboration skills with ability to work with diverse cross functional team
- Demonstrated ability to drive to achieve results and adapt to changing priorities
Nice-to-have :
- Undergraduate Degree or equivalent
- Ability to adapt to changing requirements and environments quickly
- Conflicts and issues resolution and escalation
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
