Job Description:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic student to join our team as an Office Assistant. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic academic environment, working to support our research operations team. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, detail oriented, reliable, and tech-savvy. Under the direction of the Project Manager, and guidance of the Principal Investigator, the Student Research Assistant plays a vital role in the execution of research projects, typically completed in collaboration with faculty and external industry partners. The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant is to carry out research, as a member of a project-based research team. The Research Assistant is also responsible for a wide variety of tasks related to a project including planning and assisting with data collection, data analysis, designing, evaluating and refining innovative assessment tasks, and writing and disseminating research results.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, and conducts highly independent research upon approval of the Principal Investigator

  • Collates and analyzes complex data.

  • Designs, tests, and evaluates methods and protocol for research projects.

  • Analyzes, summarizes, and organizes collected data.

  • Adapts procedures or methods relative to changes in research projects.

  • Prepares analytical reports relative to research data.

  • Performs specialized and advanced experiments.

  • Presents research at events as required (i.e.: trade shows; CICan symposium; Applied Research project

    showcases; etc).

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • CSEP Eligible
  • Current Algonquin College student enrolled in a related program
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g. SharePoint and WordPress)

Work Schedule:

  • 8 hours per week
  • Flexible scheduling during office hours (8:00AM-4:00PM, Monday – Friday)
  • This position requires regular ON-SITE work at the Ottawa Campus

Requirements for this position include: / Employment Stipulations:

  • This position is funded through the College Student Employment Program (CSEP). Applicants must be eligible for CSEP.
  • You must be currently enrolled in a full-time program. The following students are not eligible: Second Career, Apprenticeship Programs, International students, Algonquin College employees paying a reduced tuition, Collaborative programs with the University of Ottawa or Carleton University and all programs that are not Ministry-approved;
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person/Convention Refugee within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) prior to the application deadline date;
  • You must demonstrate a financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding
