Annual salary: $ 86,200.00 - 92,900.00

What you'll do

  • Plans, implements, monitors and reports on technical studies and field programs associated with construction, operations,

maintenance and waste management / pollution prevention activities. Conducts research, special programs or technical

studies, including determining implications of using various environmental control technologies in existing and proposed BC

Hydro facilities; determines, recommends and/or provides advice to others in establishing project or study approaches,

investigation parameters, costs, staff requirements and setting of priorities; prepares related impact, assessment, planning,

project and other reports.

  • Prepares designs, recommendations and work schedules and implements programs for mitigating and/or compensating

for the effects of new and existing BC Hydro facilities, operations, construction projects and waste management / pollution

prevention systems; waste management / pollution prevention includes the handling and disposal of waste materials,

chemical contaminants, air and water contaminants and spills of various potentially deleterious and hazardous materials;

inspects, monitors and administers contract work and construction projects; reviews and evaluates consultant reports.

  • Assesses and analyzes project data and methodologies; prepares materials for federal and provincial and other regulatory

review processes; ensures environmental protection issues, objectives and strategies are considered and incorporated into

project plans.

  • Develops the required management plans and procedures for a variety of programs, such as the assessment of the

properties of contaminants, release of hazardous materials to the environment, disposal of wastes, contingency planning,

etc.

  • Reviews facilities management and ongoing projects and plans to ensure consistency with environmental regulations,

policies and standards and ensures that required programs can be effectively and efficiently implemented; initiates and

assists with the development of waste management policies, standards and guidelines.

  • Assesses new waste management methods and equipment to determine their effectiveness in meeting regulatory

requirements and BC Hydro's needs.

  • Provides technical direction to SBU staff, contractors and consultants participating in assigned projects; provides technical

advice to SBU field staff on matters relating to pollution and waste issues; performs all the functions of the Environmental

Technical Specialist 2 job.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resource or Environmental Studies and six (6) years of relevant work experience; OR

Technologist Diploma in Natural Resources or Environmental Studies and eight (8) years of relevant work experience.

  • Registered with a relevant Environmental designation or eligible for registration for a relevant Environmental designation

considered an asset.

  • Must hold a valid class five (5) driver’s licence.

  • Please note this is a full-time permanent (FTR) MoveUP Group 11 opportunity on the team headquartered at our

Edmonds office in Burnaby.

  • As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to complete a written test/assessment and/or a presentation

as part of the interview process.

  • Please note: Eligibility or qualification as a Registered Professional in British Columbia under the BC Professional

Governance Act (e.g., RPBio, P.Eng., RPF, PAg.) is considered an asset.

  • A condition of employment for this role is to maintain your Driver's License in good standing.

  • Regular field trips to conduct planning and inspection at Hydro facilities, projects and construction sites throughout the

province, including working alone in remote areas, driving 4x4 trucks on rough access roads, climbing and/or walking

around uneven, steep and/or rough terrain in all weathers; majority of time spent in normal office conditions. May operate

boats, snowmobiles and ATVs during field work.

be required as a pre-condition to employment.
