This position will develop an online version of the following course:
WGST 100 – Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies
This course examines the historical emergence of feminisms and women’s and gender studies through an intersectional lens. This course will interrogate the role of settler colonialism and the legal system to explore key concepts and case studies. To do so, the class will explore gender at the intersection of race, sexuality, ability, class, and geographic location, among others. The class will analyze critical theory, public policy, popular culture and representation. Students will be guided through embodied and/or experiential learning practices focused on social location. The class will draw from feminist science studies, visual culture, critical criminology and settler colonialism studies to assist students in understanding course material through a trauma-informed and decolonizing learning framework. Given the dynamic learning environment, the class will use a range of tools to assess student’s needs including (but not limited to): empathy maps, social location mapping, learning journals, pre-class and formative surveys.
The expected delivery date for this course is Summer 2027.
Position Requirements
Successful applicants must:
- hold a minimum of an MA in Women’s and Gender Studies, preferably a PhD;
- proven ability in the teaching and creation of online courses is required;
- proven ability teaching courses in Women’s and Gender Studies is required;
- previous experience teaching WGST 100 is preferred.
The successful applicant must have a demonstrated teaching background including an understanding of current Generative AI tools that can adversely impact evaluation as well as an understanding of how AI tools are used as a tool for accommodation. Applicant must have operational understanding of UofR’s current AI use policies and will submit 1 page summary of this background and understanding as well as an example of a recently taught class that demonstrates their AI/Generative AI expectations.
